Warning: N64 online emulation is bugged out

A little disappointed here as I subscribed and have a controller on the way. So far I've only played Mario Tennis and Starfox and I haven't noticed any issues though.... Was hoping to play OoT again soon though and hopefully the fix the input lag

how does this work? Do you need a modded n64 to run it? Or you just buy the everdrive and it works on any n64? Does the everdrive come preloaded?
