Warner Bros - Remaking New Jack City Movie

Face Off, The Princess Bride, and now New Jack City? I can't say that these studios aren't putting out anything original, because they are. I'm also not against remakes. It's not like remakes. Scarface was a remake of a 1932 movie. That's a 51 year difference though. A Star is Born has been remade three times. All of the remakes that Hollywood is doing now, are for properties that are not that old and still hold up. New Jack City is a product of it's time. Not saying that a remake isn't possible. You can always tell a good crime story. But what are they going to do that hasn't been done in Power or The Wire? Is this needed, or is it just a nostalgia cash grab?

They gone too far now. The remake will never live up to the Original based on Wesley's performance in the movie. This definitely doesn't need to be remade.

Here’s my one issue with this:

A good remake or reboot takes the original concept, updates it, and finds something new to say. This movie is specifically about the crack era and about a certain time and place. New York isn’t the same, crack isn’t the same and doesn’t have the same strangle on the community, and it’s hard to think of what you can say socially or politically that wasn’t said in the original.

So you can’t make it modern and I’m at a loss as far as what you’d say that hasn’t been said. Meaning you’d have to put it right back in the early 90s...so why remake it? I’m not against remakes or reboots at all if you adhere to those basic tenants I outlined up top. But creatively, what do you do with this?

I remember reading somewhere long ago that there actually was a sequel in the works, but the whole Ice-T "Cop Killer" thing squashed that. I'm pretty sure I read or heard that somewhere. What made the original work was a very organic feel plus we were still knee deep in the "crack epidemic". So I don't know if a reboot can match the OG film.... but if it's a Netflix thing I'd give it at least one view
