I understand that attitude and it's true for a lot of old songs. I get that a lot of important rap songs were ghostwritten. And music is a collaborative effort on the big stage. People will say something that sparks lines, or help you with a flow or a hook. All that is cool. But having someone lay down reference tracks for you, lay out flows for you, and write full verses is an entirely different thing.
When it comes to those top tier MCs, it still matters. Nas, and to a much lesser extent Drake, having legit ghostwriter accusations/claims against them is a bad look for them and rap.
Drake is dominating this era and jumping into people's top 5/10/25 lists everyday now. If it was a product of a team of writers giving him those flows and just writing full rap verses/songs, then he's a fraud. He can still be entertaining, but he's Sammy Sosa status if its true. He's pitted himself against a true lyricist in Kendrick Lamar and drawn a line in the sand. If he's just a Rihanna/Beyonce style product of a 10 team writing staff then he's hurting real rappers that do it on their own.
I feel you......but this is still one of my favorite Lil Kim record whether Biggie wrote it or not.......I didn't stop listening because I heard the reference track.
Let me Ride by Dr. Dre might still be one of my favorite tracks of all time......that didn't stop because I found out RBX wrote it.

I totally get this and it's a very valid point.....I legit don't even have an argument against it besides the fact that I don't know what he's written and what he hasn't written. The Nas ghostwriting accusations hurt me at first and my first thought was "this is bullshyt" but I've come to accept that it's probably true to some extent.......then when I accepted it I had to ask myself, what does this change, is this guy still my favorite artist? For whatever reason his music connects with me more than any other artist.....
I can see how this is a bad look for hip hop in the eyes of many but I personally just feel past it all....I've come to recognize the genre was just based on fraudulence and it's hard to expect anyone to be real anymore. (Beanie Sigel and Roscoe P Coldchain are the 2 rappers I can say I've been cool with that are everything they say they are.....probably the 2 realest rappers I've met in the game.....I can tell a few stories) I generally see music as just marketing and most of us are just victims of it. I don't even take rap beefs seriously anymore.....as a whole I'm just a lot less invested and just care about good music at this point. Like I said in my first thread, me and my OG literally got paid to ghost produce another DJ's mixtape.....That was absolutely unfathomable to me as a kid that someone could even have that lack of pride. My friend is a pretty well known producer of a popular track out right now, I've seen someone try to jack him for credit on one of his previous tracks he produced for a well known R&B singer that he made in his own living room.......The game as whole is built on smoke & mirrors and a lot of this legacy talk doesn't mean anything to me anymore. At the end of the day all we have is the music because no one knows who did what at any time because we weren't there. I basically grew up and realized Santa Claus doesn't exist....I took the red pill along time ago....
shyt I've seen Kanye use ghost producers on this tip....
Kanye's cousin finds a dope producer with dope beats.....He shops the beats under the name Kanye West......Kanye takes a cut, Kanye's cousin take a cut, Producer gets on when he would have never gotten on without them and he gets paid more than he would have otherwise. Everyone eats tho.... That's how nutty shyt gets in the music industry.
At this point you'd have trouble convincing me Michelangelo did the Sistine Chapel alone like they tell you in the history books. You know in reality Michelangelo probably had the connect with the Vatican and could get everyone paid the most money and just put his young bulls on to get it done in the fastest, most efficient way possible and everyone could eat....meanwhile he takes the credit. That's the way of the world.
Like look at this shyt B.......you really think he did this shyt by himself laying on his back like they tell you in the history books? Nah, great projects of such a large state are the product of collaboration between great men....
Seems artists put in work to get to a specific place then get to a point where they can have young artist come in write songs, ideas, etc and they add their input here and there. Basically guys keep their business and energy going by leeching off the youth and they focus on other things.....Not saying it's right or dope but thats what I feel happens. It's kinda like Marlo in the wire, he put in his work to get where he was then after a while Chris and Snoop did all his dirty work for him. After a while you didn't even see him do any dirt. I'm willing to bet it's almost a source of pride for rappers now, like yeah I got to a point where I don't have to do my dirty work anymore.....
I dunno I've just accepted it......that's what's been going on since the beginning of time.
