I was the same, I was raised on G-funk, grew up around gang bang culture so NY music didn't make much sense to me. I would listen to Das FX before I would some tribe, but cool like dat and nickle bags were two joints that I saw on YO or Rap City that grabbed me without hesitation. I didn't get around to listening to the album in full til I got older and I realized how much a gem that shyt was. One of the few albums from my time I can play with my kids around.
Yeah Das EFX was my low key favorite shyt back then.
My big homies/brothers would've clowned the shyt out of me for playing it but shyt even they were considered to be wack back then.....where I'm from.
