Above the fray.
I think both shows were below average.
Sadly every female celeb that I really like can't act for shyt..including Elise Neal......she was a poor fit for the show.....the wife should have been the woman who played opposite D.L in the Brothers film. She is funny.

Nobody has mentioned this yet so I will. Just like Fresh Prince switched Aunt Viv on some Lionel Jefferson shyt.....The Parenthood switched characters and storylines. They got rid of Wendell..and invent a brother character for Robert out of the blue..when they had his pops and jailbird brother as characters in past seasons.

* I taped these and all the Black tv shows for relatives who lived overseas in majority white countries, and of course when you're dubbing tapes or dvds, you have to watch them to be able to edit out commercials..I've seen EVERY episode of every 90s...2000s Black tv series...

Give me The Parenthood over The Hughleys all day.

D.L. Hughley has never been funny to me and his routine about white vs black got old to me.

either way

Black people are either non existent or portrayed as straight stereotypes in overseas media. Wanted to balance out what my younger relatives were being fed on tv . Shows reinforced that it was NORMAL for Black people to marry other Black people and raise Black families.

Kids are gonna eat junk food, gotta make sure they eat vegetables, ya dig?

Tough choice but I went with the hughleys. I just thought it was a funnier show. Both had their comedy and the parenthood had a good cast too. I would put both of them in the third tier of best black tv shows. Not the worst shows but nothing too memorable.
