Vol 1 has some of Jay's worse songs ever.

Horribly executed album.

Nah it actually lowkey got some of his best songs. A Million and One Questions, Imaginary Player, You Must Love Me, Streets Is Watching, Friend or Foe 98, Lucky Me (one of his most underrated songs) and of course Where I'm From.

I Know What Girls Like is the only thing that is outright trash on that album. Meanwhile Vol 2 got loads of sellout bullshyt with a couple scarce gems.

On September 29, 1998, Jay-Z dropped his 3rd album Vol 2...Hard Knock Life. This was the album that made Jay-Z a superstar/household name (his first album to debut at #1 and going on to be certified 5x platinum). When this album came out, everyone had it. I remember cars in the hood driving by, bumping a different song off the album. Jay officially had the crown.

I'm sorry but in addition to I Know What Girls Like you got Sunshine, City is Mine, Who you Wit and Lucky Me (yeah it's bad).
A Million and One Questions and Imaginary Player are the only certified classics on the album

Just as much sellout bullshyt on this album, but Vol 2 was executed better.

Where I'm From isn't a classic? Get the fukk outta here, that song alone is better than anything on Vol 2

This is a double standard, Who You Wit is just as commercially blatant as any Vol 2 track. We gotta be fair and straight across the board with this.
Lucky Me sounds like fantasy get-away/cruise ship music. You're telling me this track beats out most songs on Vol 2?

Commercial or not, the songs bumped to me :manny: Who You Wit was a hot club banger at the time. Lyrically, Lucky Me was one of his most underrated tracks.

I never understood how some ppl felt that Vol.2 didn't age well. Even though it's somewhat a time capsule of that entire period of hip-hop, it had alot of dope tracks on it. It was also my first introduction to Jay Z. My parents were always bumping it around me so it's around the time I really started to really like rap music.

Hard Knock Life (even though it got worn out quickly, it's an iconic song that introduced Jay to the masses and white America).

I don't get how this can't be labeled a classic. Yeah it's not as good as Reasonable Doubt and Vol.1 has more highs but Vol. 2 as a whole is better than Vol.1.

remember when Jay said he was done after Vol. 1 came out...saying that he was going to focus on being behind the scenes? crazy.

CLASSIC ALBUM
CLASSIC RUN

jay's biggest album, and his 2nd best(after reasonable doubt)

takes me back to the beginning of the 9th grade. this was THEE album for that school year...…..yea, I know 400 degreez was better and sold about as much, but it didn't really pop off across the map until nearly a year later.
