im not sure if it was on toonami, but it was definetely the syndicated version
It definitely was on Toonami. They started out showing the Ocean Dub, until midway through the Namek Saga. And then Funimation took over and started dubbing in house. So it seemed like an endless loop, I remember getting so mad as a kid when they would get to the Namek saga only to start from the beginning all over again :francis:

Is Ocean dub the DBZ version that aired on toonami back in the day? :wtf:
He actually didn't play Goku on the Ocean Dub that aired on Toonami over here in the states.

See, about a year after Funimation switched to in-house, YTV in Canada and Cartoon Network's London channel picked up the rights to air DBZ. However, Canadian broadcast television has this weird ass rule about "Non-Canadian" content. So AB Groupe, who owns DBZ's distribution in Canada and the UK, had to produce their own dub for the Android saga to the end, with a Canadian cast instead of just sub-licensing the Funi dub. They used Westwood studios, who like FUNimation did for the Saiyan and Namek saga, used the Ocean Group to do their voices. They just recycled the FUNimation dub for the scripts.

Peter Kelamis, who was Goku's Ocean voice actor in the Namek saga played Goku in these episodes at first but then Kirby Morrow replaced him.

An important thing to note is though we call the old edited dub with different voices the Ocean dub for easiness' sake, it was still produced by FUNimation. Ocean Group just provided the voices. Same thing with the Westwood dub that aired in Canada.

Okay I'm misunderstanding. It's late so bear with me lol. I used to watch DBZ between 2001-2004. So you're saying Kirby wasn't the voice of Goku at that time?

He was the voice of Goku only if you were watching in Canada or the UK. But not here in America.

When you were watching DBZ, Sean Schemmel was voicing Goku

It depends. The Ocean dub was the dub for the first 54 episodes and aired in America, then Funimation in-house cast for everything else. You only saw the Ocean dub for everything else in Canada.

I didn't realize you weren't that familiar with everything so my original explanation prolly ain't make no sense :russ:
