alright now that we have this out of the way any of yall mess with these? I admit the hosts can be lame as shyt and the subject matter sometimes a little disgusting but theres some good ones out there.

I'm torn about them. On one hand, this is real "gonzo" journalism and you don't see much of what they show you elsewhere, but on the other hand, there is definitely some serious sensationalism and white/Eurocentric finger-pointing that is reminiscent of travel literature from a few centuries ago where brave, white explorers would detail their experiences among cannibals and other "savages" for the entertainment of the masses.

Totally agree. Its interesting to see how the ones pan out in near 'white' cultures like in eastern europe and some parts of south america. In other ones the guys behind them are like just getting too familiar with the native culture or thing theyre investigating and you're just like .

I would have to admit that theres a hard balance to be found there sometimes.

A lot of these guys doing the documentaries are straight up corn balls, I've met some in in person but you gotta respect it. They had to pay their dudes to get to that level and they put in a shyt load work for really not that much pay. I contribute to vice through photography and one of my friends is working on a documentary about pimps which is on hiatus but I might be involved in that in the near future. Vice parties are the shyt though and they give out free PBR and wine haha.

But the shyt is captivating....

They do some shyt that is downright stupid. some silly white hipsters getting in drunken brawls with Peruvians and drinking ayahuasca and shyt. I make fun of them a lot but i'll give them credit- they're exposing themselves to a lot of risk. I'm sure that there have been some incidents they didnt edit into the documentaries. Lot of people out there have a bone to pick with white people, especially Americans. It doesnt help that they look like big ol pasty targets either.

The guy that does the drug ones especially is kinda awful. I wish they were a little more down to earth when conducting some of these, a lot of the time it's like reading pitchfork in documentary form and honestly gets in the way of the doc itself. Nice about the contributions though. I DO think the mag itself has nice photography and occassionally some great articles. But its just inconsistent like every other hipster centric publication.

The brides one was really really sad shyt. It's :mindblown watching all those women convince another woman to marry this guy that kidnapped her like "i was kidnapped, it was eventually good for me" while she's crying and trying to escape.

I just subscribed to that channel a couple of months ago but of all the ones on there I had the hardest time watching the cannibal one. I couldn't even finish it. It reminds me of a less polished version of current, but they do touch on subjects nobody else will, except maybe hbo to some degree.
