Art 'THE' Clown shyts All Over 'A' Clown Called Joker: Weekend Box Office Results (Oct. 11-13)
Two years after Terrifier 2 had the box office buzzing, Art the Clown has returned in Terrifier 3. In a stunner, he didn't just win the weekend against Joker: Folie à Deux, he sawed him in half and then some with an $18.3M opening. I have yet to see it and I did not like the first two with the exception of Lauren LaVera
From one clown at the top spot, we move to the other clown in second pl. No, that is not correct. Joker 2 did not finish in second. It was actually The Wild Robot with $13.4M.
It's now the 20th highest grossing movie of the year with $83.7M. It just passed Longlegs ($74M) and, more importantly, fellow Universal animated pic, Migration ($73.2M).
Oh, look, there's Joker: Folie à Deux tumbling down to third place with $7M. That's the WB estimate so it'll probably be a lil lower when the official numbers come in. Either way it's an 81.3% drop from last weekend.
That eclipses The Marvels MCU worst -78.1% hold. At least that bomb made $10.1M in its second weekend. This shyt couldn't even crack double digits. 
That's a bigger decline than The Flash's 72.5% drop last year when it more than doubled up Joker 2 with $15.1M. What a disgrace.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took fourth place also with $7M. It only made $4,000 fewer dollars than Joker 2 so there's every chance it could actually finish in third when the official numbers hit. Its $275.6M makes it the fifth highest grossing movie this year.
Pharrell's LEGO movie, Piece by Piece opened with a miniscule $3.8M to round out the top five. Damn. Skateboard P got Jigga, Snoop, Kendrick, Pusha T, Bussa Bussa, Timbo and Justin Timberlake to provide their voices and this shyt still went double (yellow) plastic.

What's this? What's this? It's Disney's only entry in the top ten: a 31 year re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas with $2.3M from 1,700 theaters. Last year it made $4.2M from 1,650 theaters for its 30th anniversary, which was good for fifth place. Definite diminishing returns but still, it is a Halloween classic and it is October.

A gore porn movie that’s basically underground took out a franchise character movie. This is embarrassing for WB. 
An 81% dip is insane audience rejection.
I’ll check out ‘Saturday Night’ at some point, but everything I’ve seen so far from the ads just feels like someone trying too hard to be young PTA. Another movie about the entertainment industry patting itself on the back, but this one fills its cast with a bunch of Letterboxd beloveds rather than any actual “I gotta go see them” star power. Can’t say I’m too shocked at the turnout.
Surprised it didn’t end up on HBO as a limited series, though I’m guessing the chance at grand recognition at the Oscars was too good for them to pass up.

He didn't want to make it. (and lowkey, he didn't like the fact that the Joker character, which he made very sympathetic, was received so well (like duh))
They had to throw a lot of money at Joaquin as well.
So if they would have shown it to test audiences, the test audiences would have hated it.
and the studio would have demanded changes.
And he wasn't gonna do it.
So from the start, nobody that made the 1st film really wanted to make this 2nd one.
Only the studio did.
1st joint made 1 billi.
Studio got greedy. AND they gave him full creative control.
And he punished the studio.
The studio prolly made 500M off that 1 billi (maybe even less, Hollywood Acoc*nting), and then prolly spent 500M to make AND promote this one... Maybe they come out with a profit, maybe not.
Warner Bros is taking the L here. Wouldn't be surprised if 1) heads roll, 2) they put a tight leash on James Gunn.

Phillips is an a$$hole clown. He ruined it for other creatives who wanna make something special. If he didn’t want to do it he shoulda said no. fukkin douxhebag.
So Todd Phillips was the real Joker all along. Damn, shoutout to him for making me actually look back at Megalopolis in…admiration. At least Coppola burned through his own money getting his passion project on screen. I can’t see any other studio wanting to work with Phillips after the shyt he just pulled.
Don’t let that Variety article title fool you. Todd wanted to do the film and it was his idea in the first place. These filmmakers have egos and this happened to be a case of one blowing up in grand fashion in a studio’s face.

Peace at the Movies Begins with a Smile

: Weekend Box Office Results (Oct. 18-20)It's been just over 2 years since Parker Finn and Sophie Bacon put a Smile on a lotta moviegoers faces. And now Finn is back with the sequel, the aptly titled Smile 2, debuting in first place with $23M. That's an almost identical performance to Smile's $22.6M, which translates to $24M in today's dollars. Smile ended up having great legs and made $105.9M when it was all said and done. So, while this opening is consistent, in the same way that Equalizer and Ghostbusters is, you gotta think Paramount was expecting a little more.
That being said, maybe the sequel will end up making more with its B CinemaScore beating Smile's B-. That generally means better word of mouth, equating to better staying power. But Smile actually showed improvement on its first Saturday, grossing $8.6M to Friday's $8.2M. Not the case with Smile 2's $8.1M Saturday after a $9.5M Friday. So you can see how much more excited these fans work to see Smile 2 on opening night. Did they go to see Art the Clown fukk shyt up on Saturday?
In a surprise, it was The Wild Robot -not Terrifier 3- finishing in 2nd with $10.1M.
That's impressive especially when you factor in that it's now on PVOD. That hasn't slowed it down and it's up to $101.7M, good for the #16 spot at this year's box office. Standing in its way for 15th place is that hybrid Xenomorph from Alien: Romulus
It made sense that Terrifier 3 would fall from first place with the release of Smile 2, another horror movie. But third place?
Still, it was only down 50.8% with $9.3M. That's a great hold for a horror movie. Terrifier 2 saw increased grosses for 3 consecutive weekends. Terrifier 2 was the real monster. It doesn't matter, though, cuz Terrifier 3, with its $36.2M, is the #5 horror movie of the year. Speak No Evil, which I did see, is 4th with $36.4M. Sorry, Paddy, but Arty gon be chopping you down. It's aight, though, cuz you're a doctor. 
Fourth goes to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, still going strong with $5M. Its $283.9M running total passes Dune 2's $282.1M, to become the 4th highest grossing movie of 2024.
A24's We Live in Time jumped up to 5th with $4.1M. It was up almost 1,700%

Joker 2 has only made $56.4M after 3 weeks. Halloween Ends, a terrible movie, was at least at 60.5M.
The Substance, which I wanna see, made $878K.
After re-releasing The Nightmare Before Christmas last week, Disney is back at it with Hocus Pocus, which $841K from 1,480 theaters. That gets the Halloween classic to $50.1M lifetime.

Venom: Knull and Void: Weekend Box Office Results (Oct. 25-27)
Venom is back for the third, and ostensibly, last time. Hence, The Last Dance. And if it is to be the last time Tom Hardy's Lethal Protector graces the silver screen, at least it goes out on top with a $51M opening. It's actually the worst (by far) opening in the Venom franchise, after Let There be Carnage's $90M and Venom's $80.2M. Both of the previous Venom flicks went on to make the identical $213.5M.
That means that the returns have been diminishing when you consider Let There be Carnage's great start. And with a B- CinemaScore compared to B+ of the first two Venom's, it's not looking too good for longevity at the domestic box office.Fortunately, it wasn't a complete disaster. The Last Dance's $51M is not the $37.6M that Joker: Folie à Deux produced.

Smile 2 is #2 with $9.4M which was a 59.2% drop. The first Smile damn near doubled the sequel up with an $18.5M second weekend, which was only an 18% decrease from its opening. Its $40.7M running total after 2 weeks is 19.9% behind Smile's $50.8M. Franchise commercial disappointment aside, Smile 2 is the #5 horror movie of the year and is looking to pass Terrifier 3's $44.5M.
With $6.5M, The Wild Robot took 3rd. Its $111.3M total just passed IF's $111.1M to become the 14th highest grossing movie this year. 13th place is around the corner with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire making $113.3M.
4th place belongs to a new entry: Conclave, with $6.5M. What is Conclave? From Focus Features:

Fifth place once again belongs to We Live in Time, this time with $4.8M. That was a +15% burst over last week, which sounds great, and it is, on the surface. However, it had to expand by 1,983 theaters in order to get there. It's per theater average was actually only $1.6K vs. last week's $4.2K average. Still, it's always better to be up than down, even if the numbers is a lil funny style.

Its total is $57.8M.The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I was watching on Freeform earlier, made another $507K and is up to $5.8M.
The other Disney re-release, Hocus Pocus, made $363K and has made $1.5M in its 2 weeks.
