What's at the Movies this Weekend? (Jul. 21-23)
No need to bury the lede. This week we got
Barbenheimer. That is
Barbie and
Oppenheimer.
Barbie will play at 4,243 theaters, 633 more than
Oppenheimer's 3,610. You can have all that cross promotion that you want with the
Barbenheimer that you want, but make no mistake about it, Warner Bros. is trying to bury Christopher Nolan. You think the Warner Bros. forgot that he left these m************ for Universal? Uh uh. You don't turn your back on the tribe.

It's looking to have the biggest opening of the year. That honor is currently held by
The Super Mario Bros. Movie which opened to the tune of $146.3M in April. So what is this shyt about? Apparently, "Barbie suffers a crisis that leads her to question her world and her existence." Sounds like
The Lego Movie. Down to Will Ferrell playing a businessman.
Oh shyt, we even got Gravik in this bytch playing a Ken doll? Hopefully they get his lineup right. Yooo they got the tranny from Idol playing a Barbie?
Why not a Trehn?
You know they ain't gon play this shyt in the Middle East without some heavy censorship.
The other half of the Barbenheimer double feature,
Oppenheimer, is Christopher Nolan's much anticipated Universal debut after his fallout with WB. It's rocking a
93% on the TOMATOMETER from 211 Reviews. It's "the story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb." And it spans 3 whole mothatfukkin hours. It's film reels weigh 600 pounds and are 11 miles long.
But a masterpiece is a masterpiece. And this has the benefit of locking IMAX down for the next 3 weeks.
This is going to be appointment viewing like
Avatar: The Way of Water was. It's looking to open at $60M+ which would outgross Nolan's Covid-riddled
Tenet, which did $58.5M total.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One will still be playing in the most theaters at 4,321. It's up to $95.8M domestically and $264.8M globally.
M:I - Fallout dropped 42% in its 2nd weekend, down to $35.3M. Gotta think the drop will be steeper this time around with
Barbie and
Oppie dropping bombs.
Miscellaneous Milestones
Sound of Freedom continues to wow. It's done $100.9M and adds 20 more theaters.
Indy 5 just crossed the $150M mark with $150.9M.
Elemental continues to hold on strong and is up to $130.2M.
With $371.7M,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the 10th highest grossing digital animated movie ever.
No Hard Feelings is inching toward the $50M mark with $47.9M.
