John Wick Sits Atop the High Table with Franchise High $73.5M Opening: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar. 24-26)
John Wick: Chapter 4 is here and it's number 1. It's $73.5 million opening marks a new franchise high. It's an impressive feat now because every
John Wick sequel has opened better than the preceding entry.
John Wick opened with $14.4M,
John Wick 2: $30.4 and
John Wick 3: $56.8M. That means that
John Wick: Chapter 4's opened 29.4% higher than
John Wick: Chapter 3. If it has the same 3.01 multiplier over its run that Chapter 3 had (finished with $171M) then
Chapter 4 will top out at $221.2M. If it jumps 85.9% like
JW3 jumped over
JW2's $92M, then it'll finish with $317.8M. Yeah that's obviously unlikely.
One thing I know for sure though, you don't doubt the Baba Yaga.
Chapter 4 has an
A CinemaScore so word of mouth is even better than the previous two entries which both received
A- scores. And its 95% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes is up from
Chapter 3's 86%. Things are only looking up for the Boogeyman.
Battling back from a 3rd round finish last week was
Creed III, taking 2nd place with $10.4M. It's now crossed $140.8M. Impressive considering all the hullabaloo with Jonathan Majors and the alleged assault he got caught up with. From the Council of Kang to the Cancel of Kang? Not yet.
Shazam 2 tumbled down to 3rd place with $9.7M. A cool little 67.8% decline.
Shazam 1 only eased by 54.3% in it's second week and finished in first place. As it stands its $46.3 million running total is 13.5% less than
Shazam's $53.5M opening.
S C R E A IVI fell to fourth place with $8.4M. That was a 51.5% decline which was more than SCREAM's 40.8% drop in its third weekend when it brought in $7.2M. That's a 23.2% difference between the two in their third week declines. Despite the dip in performance, S C R E A IVI's $89.8M running total has now passed SCREAM's $81.6M total.
Rounding out the top 5 was
65 with $3.25M. It's now grossed $27.8M domestically and $49M globally. So it's now grossed 53.8% of its $91M production budget. Let's see if
65 can get to 65% of its budget.
Notables
Avatar: The Way of Water is the seventh highest grossing movie ever at the domestic box office with $680.4 million.
Florence Pugh's
A Good Person debuted with $834K.
For the first time in its 14 weeks,
Puss in Boots 2 has fallen out of the top 10 with $840K.
