What the fukk did I just read?

'Joker' made over a billion. Actually, it is one of the most profitable comic book movies of all time because the budget was like $70M.

'The Batman' made $770M in a shortened 45-day window. It probably would have made a billion if they kept it in theaters longer but the old regime had this idea to put it on HBO Max to try to get more subscribers out of it.

Also, 'Superman: Legacy' doesn't need to make a billion to be successful if they don't go overbudget on it.

Lastly, what do you mean we don't know if Gunn can make a good superhero movie? He's already made 4 of them which are all good, some great.
you right... I didn't know they had an almost 2 year movie theater run but holy shyt
Original ReleaseOctober 2, 2019-June 10, 202144 markets$335,451,311$738,800,000$1,074,251,311

Man them shyts was TRASH... GotG was good then they put a goddamn danceoff in it.. 2 was super dee duper mid... 3 has came and gone and not even marvel stans really care... Suicide Squad probably the best of the 4 and was about a 7... When's the last time you went back and watched it

Maybe it's just me.. I don't get the Gunn fandom. He's mid at best.

But there is no way Aquaman and Wonder Woman should be out here doing a billion and Joker and Batman billy or close... And then y'all say their flagship superhero doesn't have to do that... Nah... He better put up numbers. It's fukking Superman

What's at the Movies this Weekend? (Jul. 14-16)

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is here. Tom Cruise is back to save theaters once again. :blessed: I'm trying to go and see this at the IMAX theater at Jordan's Furniture. A place I haven't seen a movie since I saw Avengers: End Game in 2019. :wow: that is the power of cinema. That is the power of Tom Cruise. That is the power of the Impossible Mission Force. :banderas:

This is the 7th Mission: Impossible movie and it's actually been playing in theaters since Tuesday. It did $7 million in previews. I was reading Deadline and there was a lot of people in there talking about how this is a flop because Indiana Jones did more in previews at $7.2M. :russell: Indy 5 played at 4,500 theaters on a Thursday. M:I7 played at 3,300 theaters on a discount Tuesday. As such, M:I7 averaged $2,121 per theater to Indy 5's $1,600.

This is the second Mission: Impossible movie to have a 5-day opening after Mission: Impossible 2 back in 2000. That one had a franchise best $78.2M 5-day opening. Dead Reckoning is looking at a $100M which would blow past Indy 5's $83.8M 5-day, 4th of July opening.

Of course the Mission: Impossible movies have had great legs recently. Fallout's $61.2M opening was only 27.8% of its $220.1M total Gross. It was basically the same with Rogue Nation, whose $55.5M opening accounted for 28.5% of its $195M haul. Ghost Protocol was unbelievable in its back loaded nature. It opened to peanuts with $12.7M. :dwillhuh: That account for an incredible 6.1% of its $209.3M total. :damn:

So don't be fooled if the opening numbers look a little low. This will have staying power. And it's going to need it with the $290 million production budget which was ballooned by Covid start and stops. It's off to a great start. It's already got an A CinemaScore, same as Fallout. It's the same over at Rotten Tomatoes:

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to see this shyt on the big screen. That goes for you, @humminbird.

Because it got a 70 day release in the Spring and nobody is talking about it nor cares.. As something marked as the last ever of a series that y'all think is so amazing, it went off into the sunset without a care in the world...

I didn't say it flopped.. Flash flopped... But Marvel movies usually have people talking until the next one, debating the shyt, talking bout how it's going to lead into what's coming next...

This whole Phase 4 been trash and Phase 5 looking avg at best. Deadpool and the Mutants need to HURRY UP

Impressive that Across the Spider-Verse might actually finish the year with the 2nd biggest domestic weekend. Even worldwide it has a claim for #2 pound for pound/earned value.

Mario - 1.34b on a 100m budget
GotG3 - 840m on a 250m budget
Fast X - 702m on a 340m budget
ATSV - 650M+ on a 100m budget (note: may around 675m-690m)

Mission Impossible historically gives you about 200m domestic and 500m+ overseas, so the foreign numbers should help even if Americans don't care for it as much as they did Tom Cruise in a fighter jet. Still an inflated 290m budget.

A film that nobody cares about doesn’t generate that much money. It had great legs throughout a disastrous June and consensus amongst the majority who’ve seen it was “best MCU entry in a long while”. Just because the thread on here isn’t poppin’ weekly on some Top Gun: Maverick ish doesn’t make it reflective of its overall public reception because believe me, it was very much talked about throughout its theatrical run.

Went through your previous posts in here and you seem to be one of those people that de-value movies if they don’t generate a billion and that explains a lot. A movie could gross $990M and you would probably be in here talking about how it failed to resonate with the audiences.

“We don’t even know if he can make a good comic movie” — from you, in all caps, regarding James Gunn. The director responsible for popularizing a comic book entity that the general audience wasn’t really checking for prior to his adaptation.

You making a bunch of general statements when I was very specific.

1. I never said nobody cared about the movie.. I didn't say it flopped. I didn't even say it was a horrible movie.. Never said it didn't do good in the theater.. Never mentioned any thread on here...

2. I don't devalue shyt.. I'm not making any money. I don't care about a billion.. The studios do. Marvel is in the billion dollar movie business. There's about 8 billion dollar marvel movies.. So excuse me if my panties don't get wet over 800 million. That's besides any point I made.. But I figured I'd set you straight before repeating my point

3. It came... did it's numbers... And nobody cares months later. Online, offline, wherever you want to discuss it. Nobody is bringing up GotG or missing it being gone as a franchise. The first one was OK. Maybe a 7.. Second was mid at best. Nobody putting it anywhere on any top marvel films.. Maybe a 5... Out of three movies.. That's not great to me. Nobody is putting any of those three movies on the top marvel lists are they? Top 5? Top 10? Top 15? Where you putting it?

So excuse me if my undying faith isn't in this man to suddenly create an entire universe around his vision. This ain't the Russo twins here. This ain't Nolan. This ain't Matt Reeves.. I wish him the best but this blind faith isn't going to happen here. If it happens, I'll be there day 1 with tickets to every movie. If not, I won't be surprised

Mission: Accomplished. 'Dead Reckoning' Sets M:I 5-Day Opening Record: Weekend Box Office Results (Jul. 14-16)

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is here and it's somewhat of a pyrrhic victory. With $56.2 million and it's opening weekend it's obviously number one at the box office. That was never in question. That number is a definite 'disappointment,' though. It's 8.2% off of Fallout's $61.2 million and 2.8% off of M:I2's $57.8 million openings. It did open 1.3% ahead of Rogue Nation's $55.5 million opening. But it was bested by the recently released Indy 5's $60.3 million.

How about the good news? Dead Reckoning set a franchise 5-day opening record with $80 million, besting Mission: Impossible 2's $78.2 million. It's also grossed $235 million globally. It took Dial of Destiny multiple weeks to do that. So maybe it makes closer to the $195 million that Rogue Nation did instead of the $220 that Fallout did. Like I showed on Thursday, the Mission: Impossible movies are notoriously backloaded and don't rely solely on the domestic take.

I was on IMDb looking at the most popular movie trends and tell me what you see here:

Screenshot-20230715-225435.png

Do you see Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One? Indy 5 is number one. Sound of Freedom is number two. :mjtf:

Let's look a little further down the list.

Screenshot-20230715-225451.png

Oh s*** there it is coming in at number eight, up 14 spots, but still behind Across the Spider-Verse. It's inexplicably behind No Hard Feelings and Asteroid City? :picard:

Maybe the hype isn't quite there. :lolbron: Nah. I expect Ethan Hunt to leg it out like always.

running-ethan-hunt.gif

Sound of Freedom moved up a spot to take second place with an unbelievable $27 million. It's unbelievable because it's in its second weekend and Mission: Impossible came out but it didn't matter as it jumped up an incredible 37.2% from last weekend. It's made $85.4 million. It could be on its way to $150 million. :dwillhuh:

Sound-of-Freedom.jpg

Insidious: The Red Door held on strong with $13 million. That's a 60.6% honorable horror hold. It's made $58 million which passes Insidious's $54 million total run. Next to fall is The Last Key's $67.7 million. Its $122.5 million global running total just passed Chapter 3's $120.4 million total. :ehh: The Red Door putting work in like

BlindInsecureDrongo-max-1mb.gif

Dial of Destiny took a little tumble down to fourth place with a $12 million third weekend. It's made $145.3 million domestically and $302.3 million globally. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had made $253 million in the same time period. So that puts The Dial of Destiny 42.5% off of the pace. :wow:

indiana-jones-unsure.gif

Elemental rounds out the top five and continues to hold on strong with another $8.7 million. It's $125.2 million running running total passes Lightyear's $118.3 million total. It's also crossed $300 million globally with $311.6 million.

thats-better-wade-ripple.gif

Notables

Across the Spider-Verse has made $368.7 million. It's on the verge of passing Spider-Man 2's $373.5 million total. It just passed The Secret Life of Pets's $368.3 million to become the 11th highest grossing digital animated movie of all time. It should move past Minions: The Rise of Gru and it's $369.6 million tomorrow, to take 10th place. :salute:

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has crossed the $150 million mark with $152.7 million.
