I hate to admit it but this is why the vast majority of humanity was prevented from being part of political discourse in most of human history, and in most human societies. The average decision making capacity of a society gets pulled down. especially when no education system specifically teaches civics and economic theory.


Yes, this lead to abuses at the top, but it more or less kept states solid and cohesive in policy. Such a system advanced the nation/empire/tribe's interests irrespective of the wishes of that nation/empire/tribe's lowest common denominator.


On some level i would love to see the sht show true democracy was in Athens where voter turn out was a mandatory 100% and literacy was optional.
