It might also be Trips testing the waters to how an outside crowd reacts to Dream. Those marks at Fullbeard University will cheer and chant for anyone and we have seen how it failed to translate to the main roster before.

He's going to get cheered just like he does there. He gets those same reactions on the NXT house shows, the problem with things not translating to the main roster is part not everybody going to main roster shows watching NXT like that to know who guys are & part giving people gimmicks with no where to really go anywhere different anyway :manny:

Dream's character will get over; the crowd will know him from NXT and he has such a mastery of the subtle tics that make a gimmick into a character that he should be good on that front.

I do wonder, however, how he'll do in ring outside of the NXT bubble. For all that he does well, he's still not really good at filling out heat segments in an interesting manner, and he's still pretty raw in the ring overall. I don't know the opponents so I can't say if Gabe's put him with anyone good, but hopefully they'll be able to cover for what he's currently lacking in the ring (i figure that the crowd will be forgiving since they love his character).

Man, we're so far away from CM Punk and Tommy Dreamer getting heat over Punk covering ROH's ass on a one off, aren't we?

I think the main problem with call ups failing is that once called up, only one aspect of their characters get highlighted and hammered on and then they get sucked into the never ending revolving door of booking that happens to everyone on Raw and SD because there can never be any finality to anything ever.

There's also a problem where almost everyone called up has their character regressed while also playing up their storyline progression in NXT. shyt is weird.

That stuff doesn't help but there isn't really much you can do with a character like No Way Jose. That character is designed to be a fun opening to live shows to get a crowd going & nothing really beyond that. Same thing with a guy like Dillinger, what little character traits he has the only thing you can do is have him show up at 10 in the Rumble every year :yeshrug:

Only people that really make it are people coming in with a name built before NXT because they already have a built in fanbase that are going to be there regardless. Dream is the one "homegrown" person that really gets the type of reactions he gets.
