Everyone's acting like it was obvious now, but looking back people just presumed she was doing this kinda cynical, snarky expose on the white washing of Asian-American youth. It didn't seem aspirational. It seemed more like: "Isn't it kinda weird how these people act!? I know you know people like this!"
That's a part of a larger aspect of that wave when liberal humor was poppin.

It's worth keeping in mind that most liberal humor vehicles are helmed by jaded millennial feminists using their work to complain about not being desired or chosen. The bulk of entertainment has been ruined by these women
