Because he was exploiting a German tax law for the first couple of years so he could fill his own pockets.

"But crucially, the bizarre tax laws in Germany mean that any wealthy Germans who invest in a movie can write-off the production cost, delay paying their taxes and generally reduce their tax burden. When you disseminate all the boring legal business law surrounding it the bottom line is this – the German investors in a movie only pay tax on any RETURNS the movie makes, their investment is 100% deductible, so the minute the movie makes a profit, said investor has to start paying tax. Plus the investors can actually borrow money to put towards investment and write that off too. Assuming you’re a sharp enough businessman you have a potential goldmine in the making; a way to make money from investing in bad movies... "

He purposely made trash and continuously acted as a dikk in interviews so his movies would fail, because if they would start to make money, he would be losing money. After a year or so they found out he was purposely exploiting the system, so they changed the law, but not before Boll quickly put a bunch of movies in pre-production so they would fall under the old tax law. After that he started playing the same game he 'exposes' Hollywood for in the second video, attracting outside investors who'd pay for the movie's production cost (which conveniently includes Boll's own salary) while he invests none so he'd just be cashing in his paycheck.

It's because that game has run dry for him now too that he turned to crowdfunding.

Well goddamn. I don't know whether to dislike him more for being a greedy rich fukk but at the same time I want to respect the hustle.
