What the fukk do you expect, it's a fukking battle. Talking about what you're gonna do to your opponent in a violent way goes well with the competitive nature of the sport.
I would prefer gun bars over that corny bullshyt they did on Grindtime. This is lyrical warfare dammit.
and it's not they're fault you don't understand the references, just means you're not in tune with the culture. Damn, I'm Trinidadian that's not really into sports that much, and I get what they're saying most of the time.
Who the fukk complains about word-play in an artform that is built on poetry? Or do you mean some schemes? What are you talking about exactly?
I agree with the rest. Con won against Surf. Surf was pretty mediocre and overrated on here. There's nothing special about him. Con at least has creative punchlines and decent performance. Surf sucks at being the thug/gangsta battle rapper.
There are a million different ways to be violent without shooting. Gun talk is played out already. Only a idiot can't think of other ways to express violence without talking about a gun. We have literally had years and years of it and it's old.
Major sporting events that took place would suit the average person even if they aren't into sports. But the level they have taken it to a person would have to be a avid follower of football and basketball to know what they are talking about. If you watch american sports that's great but the point is, not everyone does and they alienate viewers using sports reference they way that they do. Try seeing the bigger international picture here. So you mean to tell me that in order for me to enjoy a battle I have to keep up with the nfl and nba?
Out of tune, you make it sound like sports and battling go hand and hand. Stop it! I'm in tune with the battling, just not the sports and I shouldn't have to be in order to watch a battle.
As far as the wordplay, IT'S BEING OVERUSED. The same way the guns talk and the sports references are. I've been watching this battle ish for years and it's not progressing at all. It's stale and all these rappers just follow trends. All this bring it back talk is starting to get played out to because one person does it then everyone does it then it's done all throughout the battle. My complaint of the wordplay is no different than someone who complains about rappers who just spit punchlines. Of course it's apart of the sport but they have to know when they are overdoing it.
Bottom line is these artist need to step up their bars, diversify what they rhyme about and stop relying so heavily on wordplay/sports.
