I'm almost positive I have it somewhere on one of my hard drives. I gotta look for it. I do have a bunch of VLS/CDS files and singles from their albums with instrumentals.

Word

Yeah I’m looking like, “I swear I remember seeing this shyt get released officially or leak” a few years ago

Definitely the most cohesive, but I didn't really like this album at all. My boys on the other hand, loved this record.

I personally see 97 as the end of the golden era. 95 was the peak, 96 was good, but 97 was the changing of the era.

What was in the running at the time

I'd give mentions to
  • Missy Elliot - Sock it 2 Me, The Rain
  • Slum Village - Dilla fans won't allow anyone to rest without them talking about this album.
  • Company Flow - an underground "classic"
  • Biggie - Hypnotize, Kick in the Door, I got a Story to Tell, Ten Crack Commandments
  • Puffy - lots of hits
  • Royal Flush - Moving on Ya Weak Production
  • Common Sense - a few joints on that
  • Beatnuts - Off the Books

I'd put Puffy's No Way Out as the best produced lp of that era, with Life After Death as being the better hip hop record.
For underground/not as popular stuff - Co Flow for me.

For the South - hmm

"I always feel like"

But honestly...

Tru - Tru 2 Da Game - for "No Limit Soldier"

^ If you was in the clubs when this dropped - made you feel like The Incredible Hulk mixed with Wolverine mixed with the Tasmanian Devil.

"No Limit Soldiers" was the one, like it felt like "ok this definitely something else". I think Mystikal's Unpredictable is a contender for best produced album of 1997 as well.

The War Report is a top 10 personal favorite album of mine, so I'm rolling with that as the best produced of 97

97 had some EPIC productions with LAD and Forever, along with some gutter throwbacks (War Report, Funcrusher) and a blend of refreshing uniqueness with Uptown

I came in to say War Report but you got it first.. I love that album!
Wu Tang Forever also had some heat on it and LAD as you said, probably three of my fave albums that year hands down.

That's true, but 1996 was the apex of hip-hop and the quality has trended down since then, unfortunately.

1995 and 1996 are arguably the best years (93-96 are a pick'em), so it's difficult to not be as good. I like 97 more than 98 personally.
95 was my fave year..... 96 was also :fire:

1995 was my personal favorite too...

The Infamous & OB4CL are both in my top 3, and both rotate in as my all time favorite album. Liquid Swords in my top 8 or so albums too.

We had it so good back then...I was too young to truly appreciate, I just felt it would keep getting better and better ever year :francis:
