If that happened that would have been the end of the American dream. A live execution of a sitting VP would give the go ahead light for every country to say the USA ain't shyt and if they ever interfere in another election the world will sanction them. It would have spelled the downfall of the mighty. Just opinion, but I think it would have killed the idea if the USA faster then China ever could.

So, why wasn't Trump immediately taken away to a secure location when this happened given the White House is literally only a few blocks away from the Capitol? Why was he allowed to just sit and watch it unfold on TV in glee? Unless they had no reason to feel he was in danger

According to people in the WH at the time, they said he just stayed in his office while it unfolded and seemed gleeful. They didn't rush him into the bunker-like they did during the summer which is highly suspect. Why didn't his secret service detail feel he wasn't in danger?
