Well with that you had multiple issues of build up. To do the Dark Phoenix saga they would have needed to start the franchise off building up, movie by movie, to the Dark Phoenix.

That is the last issue of the dark Phoenix saga, to do a dark Phoenix saga movie you have to do a Phoenix saga movie which in all honesty should be two movies to really do it justice. If they did a five or six movie plan for the x-men and used three or four of those movies for the entirety of the Phoenix story it could work
