I work in IT, and it's insane how many "Cybersecurity professionals" in this field are crying over Chinese spyware being banned. TikTok literally farms your data on your device and sends it straight to the CCP.

This isn't the same as Facebook, Google, or Apple taking your data and selling it for advertisement purposes. China will force user data to be handed to them from companies without a subpoena. But fukk it; I guess the TikTok shop is more important than foreign adversaries farming data and using it to influence our population.
The app gives itself access to your device clipboard, could read your activity of other apps, could possibly be reading your password inputs on other apps etc. :childplease: nikkas so turnt out by algorithm attention they really gonna compare this to IG n shyt. What a fukkin joke

There's like several layers of stupid in here.

Motherfukkers talkin' about "Chinese spyware" while their phone has Facebook and Whatsapp and IG.
One of these apps was literally used to assassinate someone by Israel :pachaha:

None of this shyt for YOUR PERSONAL GOOD, it's for the STATE'S PERSONAL GOOD.

The same reason you can't talk about Palestine on IG without getting your profile wiped off of the face
of the earth.

Censorship.
Data collection.
And suppressing of alternative ideas is ALREADY HERE.

Also:
It's already been proven that there was no special chinese server.

The server with all of our info is in fukking Texas for fukks sake. :pachaha:
It doesn't matter where the server was located. Becaue bytedance is a Chinese company that have to give the Chinese Communist Party full access to the server. Period. Some of yall really want to keep your eyes closed on how Authortarian the CCP is.

While FB and IG are banned, it hasn't stopped meta from doing biz with China.

That’s irrelevant to my point. Are the apps banned or not?

I’m just trying to educate the coli with facts not opinions and people can come to their own conclusion.

A few facts:

1. Donald Trump kicked all this shyt off.
2. Biden administration looked into it and thought it was a national security threat
3. A bill was made and got bipartisan support
4. Supreme Court passed a law
5. The social media apps Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are banned in china

they don't say that to OF or strippers, they say much worse. you don't think those people are looked down upon?

what was your friends end goal? did they plan on doing tik tok forever? it would eventually become over saturated with everyone trying to be content creators and the payout would be exponentially less. there's absolutely no chance whatsoever that the model would continue the way it is.
Ppl have been making major money off youtube and IG for over a decade.

There's no sign of thar slowing down. It can't really get oversaturated bc more eyeballs = dollars to apps

Yes, YOU individually might say too many ppl are dancing on an app, but those ppl are gaining followers bring money for advertisers to thesr apps

I never said its NOT censorship. I've argued the vast reactions to this ban are hinged on the fact their go to source of entertainment is gone. With people acting as if this loss is monumental enough to change the landscape of society, which it isn't. Its the ( forced ) decline of another popular app/site.

Yes, I said comfort, time dump app. Its an intersection of Tumblr and Instagram. Its not the Library of Alexandria.

if the government can arbitrarily ban websites and dictate what apps you can install, it absolutely has changed the landscape of our society.

i doubt this will be the last ban we and the chorus to ban more websites has gotten louder.

tiktok has way more information than the library of alexandria had.probably produces a library of alexandria of valuable information every hour.

TikTok is so terrible but Biden and Harris made accounts this year to win the election. :dead:

Begging yall to use your brains, man. :dead:
This is my point.

So President Biden & Harris campaign had their personal info data farmed to China? Yes, I know it's not their personal phones, but the question stands...

Anyway, this isn't even worth arguing over. TikTok didn't name drop Trump for no reason. There's a play going on obviously so you'll have your brain rot back in a couple of days. Chill the fukk out.
Obvious theatrics and Chumps ego behind all of this. The CEO of TikTok is going to Chumps inauguration as a guest of honor.

:what: you think Biden and Harris made those accounts or even know they existed
Biden doesn't know what day it is anymore so maybe not in his case but do Harris and his and her teams know what platforms their likenesses are being posted on under their official handles? Uh yeah :dahell:

i never said ban anything :gucci:

regulate doesn't equal ban. they can regulate the data collection practices and policies of these companies to make them develop apps that collect very little info and determine how long that data can be kept.
Right you didn't say ban anything. I was asking you for an appropriate solution to the issue and that was just a proposal. I mean no offense, I'm not coming at your head like these other dudes in the thread I'm just genuinely curious.

It's interesting you say regulate. I remember we had a discussion prior about regulating the algorithms used to provide users content in these apps and we kind of agreed we should be given a choice between multiple algorithms with a clear, concise description of what each algorithm does provided.

So would you be on board with the data being treated in a similar way? The data collection and retention policies of these social media apps need to be regulated in a way that prevents unnecessary data from being extracted and limits put in place on what types of data can be extracted and for how long it can be kept? If so who would determine that? At some point the onus of trust has to be put somewhere that whoever creates that would have our best interest at heart and have the process be as shielded from corruption as possible huh?
