@jbendery
Robinson said he's also suing Louis Money, a former Greensboro adult video store employee who talked to a local news site in September about how Robinson frequented his stores to watch explicit videos.

@jbendery
“We are going to take these first steps to fight against what we consider to be one of the greatest examples of political interference in the state’s history and quite possibly this nation’s history," Robinson declared.
A lotta bluster today. But that appears to be all he's got.

@jbendery
CNN meticulously reported its story and laid out how it connected Robinson to years of disturbing comments in a porn site forum.
I haven't seen his lawsuit yet. But Robinson’s lawyer, Jesse Binnall, didn’t exactly present the strongest legal argument for their defamation case.
5/16
@jbendery
Binnall on why CNN would defame Robinson:
“A left-wing media outlet is going to do everything they can to stop this man from being governor because they know this man has an ability to connect with voters in a way that, quite frankly, scares them." Okay? Mark Robinson Is Suing CNN For $50 Million Over His Reported Porn Site Comments

@jbendery
What's also silly amid all of this is that shortly after the CNN report came out, Robinson was decrying the "lies" in the story -- but then said it "possibly happened."

Update: A copy of Mark Robinson's lawsuit is in here.
CNN has declined comment to HuffPost. Mark Robinson Is Suing CNN For $50 Million Over His Reported Porn Site Comments

@jbendery
Robinson isn't just suing CNN. He's also suing Louis Money, a former NC adult video store employee.
Money told a local news site in Sept that Robinson was at his store “5 nights a week” + bought hundreds of “super hardcore” bootleg videos too extreme to sell in the state.
9/16
@jbendery
In today's lawsuit, Robinson admitted he used to hang around Money’s porn shop.
But Robinson said he was a manager at Papa John’s at the time and just went by to “bring over free pizza and socialize” because he has “always been a gregarious, outgoing person.”
10/16
@jbendery
Two thoughts about this lawsuit.
1) Streisand effect.
2) The only people who will benefit from this are Robinson's lawyers and Josh Stein.
11/16
@jbendery
Other things Robinson claims in his lawsuit:
That CNN is "indistinguishable from Democrat party talking points and opposes politically conservative candidates," and that Money's interview was with a local news site "with links to George Soros."
12/16
@jbendery
Will also add that Robinson did not address why most of his staff -- on his campaign + in his govt office -- quit en masse: because he reportedly rejected multiple offers from supporters to use technology to investigate and ID who made these comments on the porn site forum.
13/16
@jbendery
And, another update:
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) says Robinson, who is currently lieutenant governor, should step down.
Cooper also condemned him for spreading disinformation about Helene recovery efforts. "He needs to stop it." Mark Robinson Is Suing CNN For $50 Million Over His Reported Porn Site Comments
14/16
@jbendery
Cooper went on to rip political candidates who are "using people's misery to sow chaos for their own political objectives and it's wrong."
15/16
@jbendery
Quite a day for Mark Robinson.
He filed a nonsensical $50 million lawsuit that amplifies the details of his gross and disturbing activities, and then his governor told him to step down and ripped him for spreading disinformation about FEMA.
16/16
@jbendery
Incredible to me how much traction this CNN story has gained (it was a doozy, don't get me wrong) when Robinson has been vile and extreme for years and Republicans were just fine with it until now. Mark Robinson's Porn Scandal Is A Doozy — But It's Far From His First Publicly Vile Behavior
