The answer from my parents (Born-Again Christians):

Asked them that question about 20 years ago. Other kinds of Christians may have different answers, but those I've asked have all pretty much said the same thing....:manny:

That is what they think but god and Jesus wanted no monuments or idols. Christians have been getting around that by saying they are prying to it but they still sacrificed time and effort for it.

The bold is the reason they are NOT 'idolaters'. You have to 'sacrifice' to those images/statues in order for them to be 'idols'. Check the verses and you'll see what I mean. The whole reason for those 'commands' was to differentiate them (Hebrews) from the Egyptian and Roman cults.

True but both camps stopped the sacrifice of animals long ago now wouldn't time be the most precious thing they could give up for there god now. Time they took to build those monuments and admire them.

No one knows what the Sphinx' or Stonehenge's purposes were.

The Church on the Blood's purpose was to mark the spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated by a terrorist organization who wanted more freedoms but, instead, increased oppression 20 years after the Tsar had freed the serfs.

Actually, they didn't stop sacrificing to their 'idols' so much as they couldn't after their respective civilizations collapsed. Sacrificing didn't just mean killing animals (or children), btw. 'Pouring out some liquor' is a form of sacrifice from those ancient civilizations some still utilize to this day without knowing where the practice originated or it's purpose.

Atheists Giving Aid | We Are Atheism

Atheists Giving Aid – Oklahoma Tornado Relief | We Are Atheism

Atheists Giving Aid – Boston Marathon Tragedy | We Are Atheism

Atheists Giving Aid – Support Sandy Hook Elementary

Also, LOL at you wanting so many details about the charitable activities of atheists. I doubt you'd ever be this picky with any other charity. "BUT DO THEY HELP SICK CHILDREN?" "DO THEY VACCINATE GHANAIANS?? I WON'T COUNT THEM AS A CHARITY UNLESS THEY VACCINATE GHANAIANS, SPECIFICALLY." :stopitslime:
:usure:

he posted a link of a group to say it's was a charity group. I clicked on his link and it only talked about random BS.. so I asked what they did.

Also, LOL, I am very picky with charities. And it's not a crime to ask about atheist based charities considering most people don't know there is such a thing.

this is quite the contradiction...

Atheists love to troll Christianity and then claim "oh its not disrespectful because i don't follow your rules".

What ever happened to respecting everyone's belief? I treat ALL holy ground like holy ground even if its not MY holy ground....respect people. This is vile imo

Atheist for Jesus
The monument celebrates the idea of being free from fundamentalism and arbitrary superstition, being free from pointless supernatural power structures controlling every aspect of your life.
Vs what per say? A belief structure based on YOUR own personal assessment of the world?

Freedom of thought has been a pretty darn important idea in human history, and that's what atheism is in its rawest sense; freedom of thought. Freedom to live your life on your own terms.

Do Christians NOT live their lives on their own terms?

I personally don't mind or actually care about the monument, free speech is free speech, but some of what you're saying is hypocritical.

You claim it's to highlight freedom of thought yet you shyt on people who freely THINK and believe in something you disagree with? Sounds kinda hypocritical don't you think?

even i will say that an atheist monument is downright retarded

maybe they're trying to be spiteful, or they think that mimicry of religious people's behavior is the way to gain traction culturally, but either way, monuments are kind of antithetical to atheism. you dont rally around things that you dont believe in. a humanistic monument would have been far better.

Yeah, I have never liked the "atheist" label because "atheism" is really nothing more than the absence of religiosity. There is no moral doctrine, institution, or ideology specific to "atheism," so to try and manifest it as such through symbolic representation misses the point imo.
