Not really seeing a trend among the associates outside of "like being controversial".

Looking up some of these people, I think they're going to have a pretty narrow target audience. There a pro-gay activist and a trans person on their advisor group so they're already alienating one wing of their potential student pool, a number of other people with some oddball views. They look like they're mostly going to attract the big pro-capitalist "independent thinkers" who don't like going with either mainstream on social views but are really just chasing money in the end.
Ferguson probably had the funniest random stance of any of them:
