Even as Americans live longer, they spend more of their years in poor health than any other country, a new study shows.
People in the US live with illness for 12.4 years on average – up from 10.9 years in 2000, according to a study published by the American Medical Association

The problem is not Healthcare. The problem is american citizens' access to healthcare, which is controlled by the Health Insurance Oligarchy, to which AARP and "Healthcare Advantage" "providers" belong. We need to abolish the health insurance companies and install Medicare for All, immediately!

And people in 65 countries and territories still outlive Americans! Tell me again how great the U.S. health care system is. #SocializeHealthcare #MedicareForAll

Americans love to champion their exceptionalism, but the cognitive dissonance required to reconcile facts with cherished myths is staggering. I love my country, but this mindset can be mind-boggling.

So we have about the lowest life expectancy, and are sick more of it, in the first world. That's exceptionalism all right.

Live longer in sickness so they can keep spending more paying healthcare and taking more drugs.

There’s no money to be made from cures. Only from prolonging the suffering.

Apropos of nothing, the American health insurance system is terrible: responsible for pain, poor health and death.

Longevity means little without vitality. This study reminds us to prioritize not just years of life, but the quality of those years. Small changes, like movement, mindfulness, and whole foods, add up. Invest in your health today. Your future self will thank you.

We need Medicare for all, but greedy billionaires won't let it happen.

Kittyizzo @kittyizzo.bsky.social
Pretty soon there will be Medicare for none. Everyone needs to invest in their health. Your gym membership is your health insurance.

This is the impact of diet, lack of exercise, being utterly dependent on cars rather than walking, and smoking. And for those who are unlucky enough to be poor, add in chronic stress and the effects of living in a crappy environment

Jason Wang @sjasonwang.bsky.social
Yup! And addiction. And isolation. And family structures falling apart. And losing touch with nature. And living in an economy where basics like housing are unaffordable.
Then we fix it not with healthy communities, but instead with social media, Xanax, and Ozempic.

We’re also the most unequal of the wealthy countries. If you’re rich or have a good union job, you can have great healthcare. If you’re poor, your healthcare sucks and probably doesn’t include a lot of preventive care. And you don’t have sick leave to go to the doctor anyway.

Jason Wang @sjasonwang.bsky.social
These days I'm starting to feel more like the actual healthcare we provide only helps around the margins. Whether you have good or bad healthcare services or insurance, the real difference is way upstream. The aforementioned factors: food, environment, community, etc.

Live longer? By what, a few weeks? Do we live longer than we did in 2019? American processed food is killing us, and the medical and pharm industry is there to keep us going, sort of. Unfettered Capitalism at its worst.

Don't worry. Trump and the MAGA GOP will take care of that by simply abolishing Medicare and Social Security so people die the minute they first get sick.

Because big Pharma has no interest in cures, there being far more money in extended illness.
