Let’s say we have a hung jury and prosecution goes after murder 1/2 as expected. Those charges get dropped because a jury couldn’t come to a conclusion to convict. The judge can still step in and sentence a less severe charge according to precedent and state or federal guidelines. Typically manslaughter
