One of those oddball neo-noirs ala Inherent Vice and Barton Fink that doesn’t shy away from going down that rabbit hole. A24 was in bit of a flux finding out what to do with this one after it didn’t do too hot at Cannes and I can see why. I loved every bit of it though.
There are moments within that resemble shades of Hitchcock and Lynch, but instead of the smartly-dressed detective, Garfield’s character looks like he hopped right off the set of Pineapple Express. Picture ‘The Dude’ and just any of the bizarre situations from The Big Lebowski, lol. I think It Follows is without a doubt Mitchell’s tighter film, but I always revisit this one from time to time in awe of the craftsmanship.
