Serious question, if a black cop or several black cops had been present during this ,do you think it would have gone down any different? They always back up their own. I would bet if the entire police department was african american you would still have these abuses. Because cops seem to develop an attitude of 'them' and 'us'.
A while back I saw a video of two uniformed black cops drag a handcuffed black male into an elevator and literally take his skull apart with their batons.
To be honest I have no doubt there is racism within the police, but in my view the main issue is the overall mindset american cops have generally to the public, especially minorities, the mentally ill and the poor . In the UK our police are not perfect, but they tend to see themselves as serving the public and there is the traditional theory within UK policing, that policing has to be happen 'by consent'.
American cops seem far more aggressive and seem to act like a paramilitary force.I remember the case of an elderly white british tourist who was on his holidays in america who 'jaywalked' {we don't have such a law in the UK so didn't understand he had broken the law } and because he dared question the cop who confronted him ,he was slammed into the concrete and placed in cuffs, cutting his face . In the UK, if he had done a similar minor offence, unless he attacked the cop, he would have been give 'words of advice' and told to be on his way, even if he objected to the cop telling him off.
And the cop who in the video did the planting of 'evidence' ,actually has a past history of complaints, and was fired from his last job as a cop, the charges may have been dropped, but he was still rehired by this department despite his shady past...
