The Caribbean = Caribbean Mainland and Islands
The Netherlands is the first Monarchy in Western history to ever formally apologize to their former and current Caribbean colonies for their active roles in the trans-Atlantic Slavetrade.
Suriname, St. Maarten, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Eustatius and Saba.
It happened last year, I’m kinda surprised it wasn’t more of a big deal in the Diaspora given how significant it was.
The formal part was so significant, because it opens the door to Reparations.
(That’s why America, the UK and all historical empires never formally apologized for slavery up until that point).
So The Netherlands might realistically be the first country to pay Reparations to the Caribbean in our lifetime.
Germany formally apologized, which is how J€ws got reparations (and still receive them til this day)

Oh that...class games
They're weaned on theatrical image-management...Harrow, Eton, wherever. Everything's a negotiation, seize the mental/moral high ground, who dares wins, yadda yadda. Image maintenance costs time and money, and they've largely lost the plot except for some very quiet and serious people. The mystique evaporates once you've seen behind the masks a few times. The smugness is just all in the game.
