I'm trying to see why religious people have a problem with this, since there's no specific injunction against things like this in the Bible or Quran or what have you. If gene therapy, for example, is allowed, or cloning organs, then how can you draw a line at things like this.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that it's that it's something that they don't understand, so therefore they are afraid of it. They hear about things like gene therapy and babies, so their minds might be slanted toward thinking about things like abortion and other buzzwords that upset them.
