From Meltzers newsletter

Here’s a few notes on UFC finances and these aren’t estimates but actual numbers. In 2014, UFC grossed $449,008,000 and posted a $73,957,000 profit. That was the year everything went wrong with injuries and such. In 2015, the year Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor got hot, they grossed $608,629,000 and posted a $157,806,000 profit. As compared with WWE, they grossed slightly less but posted more than six times the profit. It should be noted that doesn’t include interest payments on their loans, which were $22,797,000 in 2014 and $21,767,000 in 2015.

Leaking of these numbers adds credence to sales talks

Pro wrestling is guys memorizing a routine/finish....same thing figure skating/gymnastics is. Not throwing shade. I was trying to be generous to pro wrestling. It's not a sport, imo. MMA is.

Plus....what kind of sports can it possibly be when, for the most part, it holds back it's best in-ring performers(cruiserweights, luchas, technicians, etc.) to hype up the slower, less technical, less talented athletes?

:camby:with the "mma = pro wrestling" nonsense.

The business is structured the same that's why they compared, has nothing to do with what is being performed.

Boxing is very similar to music concert promotions, which is why AL Haymon came over and dominated, because he already mastered that business.

UFC is structed just like WWE

and Bellator would be WCW or some shyt.

:jbhmm: I could live with that. Bellator can't be WCW, though....

....because WCW is the G.O.A.T.

How come Brock Lesnar Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, well every UFC heavyweight champ pre Cain all did pro wrestling and mma? Pride started as having both pro wrestling and real fights on the shows in Japan. Far more of a parallel

UFC fired Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami while both being in their own top 10 rankings for being boring in the octagon, while keeping much worse fighters around forever for having exciting fights with KOs. Sports entertainment.

Pro wresting was really the only place to go back in the day if you were a great wrestler in College and wanted to make a living doing it. i suppose back in the day you had those WWE fans who thought that shyt was real anyway so putting MMA on the same card was a smart way to introduce it to people who were already used to seeing similar moves whereas a lot of boxing fans etc would complain about the kicks, chokes, grappling etc because "it's not real fighting" there's plenty of UFC HW fighters who haven't done WWE tho

You named 2 fighters in mma history...what about DJ, Dominic Cruz, Ben Henderson, RDA, Frankie Edgar, etc.? These are guys who are true technicians...who don't have great buyrates...dont always finish...don't have great ratings but the UFC still hyped them up and gave them main events purely off their in-cage skill?

Does WWE and TNA do that as frequently as mma? Not even close.

If most pro wrestling was like ROH...I wouldn't be complaining. Pro wrestling ain't a sport...but whatever. ...MT made a good point about how the actual business is structured...I'm not hating.
