The decline of pettis is :mjcry::to::sadbron:
Had a spark at the start but there is a case ppl jumped the gun. He was exposed as early as the clay guida fight but ppl just assumed it was an anomaly . Having bendo's number and all those jamboree kicks really fooled a lot of ppl:russ: dude is in a weird place, too small for LW too frail for FW. Its like he's just not built to be a fighter. He made porier look like Randy couture

Dustin lucky he got out of that triangle, he was pretty much handing it to Pettis
For someone with as god of a jiu-jitsu game as Poirier, he sure was flirting with that triangle threat a ton during that fight. That had me puzzled. Because we all know Pettis is a beast from the guard. When Pettis finally got the triangle and took that 90 degree angle I thought Poirier was finished.

Just saw the highlights. Looked like a great fight. Any word on Pettis' injury?
Definitely a separated rib or torn rib cartilage. I popped a rib the same way in jiu-jitsu. Couldn't even breathe without it hurting for a few weeks.

I've searched online and can't find anything other than 'rib injury.'

UFC shouldn't give him a fight for a whole year just for his safety, that was vicious. Held his head up real good and then practically took an axe to his head
I wouldn't mind them slightly forcing Diego Sanchez into retirement. That's 3 out of his past four finished finished by strikes in the first round.

The way his body entirely turned off last night from that elbow eerily reminded me of when Chuck Liddell's light switched off in Chuck's final fight against Rich Franklin.

Diego is an interesting cat. he started off comparing himself to Rickson Gracie, framing himself as this super technical grappler and jiu-jitsu fighter, and said it was his destiny to never be defeated.

Then he ended up becoming a brawler that has been hella entertaining over the years, but I really worry about CTE with that guy. Is anyone from TUF Season 1 still fighting besides him?

:mjcry: What is he fighting for? If you aren't fighting to be the champ, and you've been concussed god knows how many times, hang it up bro. I'd love to see Diego just hop on the BJJ/submission grappling circuit if he still wants to compete in athletics.

BTW just figured I'd throw this stat out there because of my username.

Matt Brown has the most darce choke attempts out of any UFC fighter to never finish one in the Octagon.

He had 3 super tight ones from my 3 favorite finishing angles, all very tight: on Mike Swick (sitting through almost like a guard pull for the finish), Erick Silva (stepping over to mount for the finish), and Chris Lytle (baseball slide/Homer Simpson walking in to finish).

He was never able to seal the deal with it. Was really hoping for it last night on his final fight.

Short answer, drugs. Diego uses/used to use a lot of recreational drugs and go on binges. That stuff eventually starts taxing you physically and mentally.

These days I think he's just fighting for a check and as rough as he's looked, what else can he do? I don't think anyone is begging to attend a Diego Sanchez led seminar and can you even imagine this dude at a desk job? The unfortunate reality for a lot of fighters is once they stop fighting, if they haven't laid the ground work for a future career, theres nothing left for them to do to make a living.

Sad shyt.

You're right.

I go to a lot of seminars, but I wouldn't be that stoked to go to a Diego Sanchez one.
