i get where dana is coming from, but he gotta chill. I had volkanovski winning because thats what judging does in close fights, but ultimately it was up to Max to finish him or win decisively.

Don’t defend feet stomping. Not a fanboy here
It's mma. Foot stomps pressure the fighter to move.

Rib shot
Foot stomp
Shoulder strike
Takedown
Pummeled.

Masvidal froze.

He let all that happen because he didn't want to move wrong and get taken down or use to much energy defending the clinch but you gotta move

yal wouldn't have been able to deal with peak GSP :banderas:

Peak GSP would've had most of these guys absolutely FURIOUS.

Facts.

It wasn't flashy by any means, but Usman low key whooped Masvidal's ass through that whole fight.

Those gut/rib/body shots might not look like much, but they absolutely hurt. Especially when you're short on breath from grappling in the first place. Those weren't just petty scoring shots. Those were meant to break his will. Not to mention the short elbows he was getting caught with.

And like you said, the foot stomps are meant to force movement to open up the opponent for other strikes, and slow them down when they're on their feet away from the cage wall.

Ultimately though, the complaint goes both ways. If Usman went out to fight a boring fight, Masvidal deserves heat for letting him fight that way. Six days in advance or not, you have to know that Usman is going to grapple to negate the stroking disadvantage he has.

Masvidals striking probably forced the strategy. Props to him but he didn't have a response to the wrestling and got a game plan executed on him with no response. He tried to play possum for a flash ko but it didn't didn't help.

UFC 251, Dana White’s much-anticipated first Fight Island card headlined by a welterweight title tilt between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal, generated around 1.3 million pay-per-view buys on ESPN+, multiple sources tell The Athletic.

Biggest card since Khabib/Conor.

Jorge probably gonna take the rest of the year off after a career best payday then get a money fight with Nate/Conor when they "un-retire" for the 400th time early next year. Pretty good come up after losing your first and probably only title shot in a 50-45 blowout :ehh:
Ufc is an entertainment company with no strict rankings so I wouldn't be surprised if he got all that.

He may be at the announcers table if he keeps it up
