Is it clobberin’ time again?

The UFC is currently discussing booking CM Punk vs. Mike Jackson on the UFC 225 card on June 9 in Chicago, MMA Fighting has learned. According to multiple sources, discussions are in the early stages with no final decision made just yet.

The promotion officially announced its return to Chicago last week for the pay-per-view event, and that immediately led to speculation whether Punk, née Phil Brooks, who lives in Chicago, would be on the card. Punk even tweeted about the card moments after it was announced.

Punk (0-1) made his UFC debut in September 2016 at UFC 203. He lost via first-round submission to Mickey Gall. Afterwards, UFC president Dana White, who has always spoken glowingly of the former World Wrestling Entertainment champion, never closed the door on Punk getting a second shot in the UFC, and neither did Punk.

Following the loss to Gall, Punk continued to train at Roufusport in Milwaukee, WI in hopes of getting another fight.

And no one has campaigned harder for that fight than Jackson. Jackson (0-1) lost to Gall via first-round submission in February 2016 in a fight to get the Punk fight. Since then, Jackson has used social media to poke at the former professional wrestler in hopes of being his second opponent in the UFC.

The promotion appears to like the idea, too, but again, a second fight for Punk hasn’t been signed just yet.

UFC 225 is set for the United Center in Chicago, where Punk is a huge local draw. No main event has been announced for the card at this time.
