he also expected that the united states would be the main intermediary between israeli and palestinian negotiations for the forseeable future. it was a pretty crucial error that he didnt forsee the next president would potentially move the embassy to jerusalem for no reason and move the US administration so far to israels side that the palestinian authority would lose all faith in the US and go to the ICC to try to build more global support.
because unconditional support for and defense of all israeli policies is important for many democratic politicians too they mightve been able to override a veto too so it might not have even been worth it.
