People are not doing things in the correct order. First you meet each other, you get to know each other and see if you both are compatible, you meet each other's families, you have the engagement, you get married, you prepare for children, you have children.

People are messing up the process by skipping parts, ignoring parts, and not understanding just how solemn a marriage vow actually is. No real thought is being made concerning their future together, nor the future of their children. So a lot of people go into marriage having no clue about the person they have married. Allowing their Lust to override their common sense, ignoring massive red flags, and being ill-prepared for the requirements that need to be met to have a successful relationship and raise well adjusted children.

All of the problems stemming out of their ego and selfishness. Not being able to learn from mistakes, not being able to even admit mistakes, not being able to remain loyal, not being able to remain respectful, not being able to compromise, not being able to consider what is best for the nuclear family outside of just themselves, etc.. Essentially lacking many skills and characteristics needed to effectively maintain a marriage. Yet, none of those skills and characteristics are needed to get married. Ending up with a good bit of marriages, nearly 50% in the US, doomed to fail.
