And this is my question.

I absolutely love this moment and have ALWAYS looked up to and respected Tyler’s DIY business acumen.

But i hope it doesn’t stop with him

When Master P, and other Hip hop moguls were doing their thing in the 90’s you had a whole generation of entrepreneurs coming after them and some being very successful.

But as someone who studies film/acting I know it’s not as easy.

Is there anybody right now who has the potential to even be the next Tyler Perry?

Ava?? Issa??

Shonda Rimes May be the closest As far as the TV medium and she’s about as old as Tyler.

Fair question indeed.

I'm of the opinion that there are many "potential Tyler Perrys" who simply don't know it yet, and currently we do not have a culture that encourages them to pursue their goals in the way that he did.

Master P's Hip Hop business success was preceded by Sylvia Robinson, Russell Simmons, Andre Harrell, Tyrone Williams, Nat Robinson, and later on, Easy E, Suge and Dre, Puffy -- there was a wave. And Sylvia was a product of 1950s/1960s black music that had its own business pioneer in Berry Gordy.

Tyler independently leveraged a unique asset he controlled (live gospel plays) into a full-blown media empire. He had the vision, confidence and drive to make it happen. His religious background obviously provided inspirational support.

I don't think its about one or two names.

Rather, are we ready to create new institutions and industries that we control, instead of just "seeking representation in Hollywood"?

My late grandmother had never been to a movie theater until she went to see a Madea movie with my aunt. They said she had the time of her life. :salute: Tyler Perry and R.I.P Grandma
