I think its interesting that this thread shows that Coli posters deal with trying to understand psychos and their crimes the same way that mainstream media does.
If the killer was white the thread would've been filled with nothing but "cacs gone cac" and "white people are naturally evil" comments. Instead he's black so people are searching for answers as to WHY? Is it failed parenting? A culture that glorifies "bad boys"? Surely he must have been on drugs...
the "why" question comes up with every sensationalized murder. not just when the killer is black.
what people say on the coli has to be taken with a boulder of salt because a lot of stuff is said in jest here. especially the racial connotations.
I guess its just harder for most people to rationalize that some folks are just bad people when those folks in question look like themselves. (Or its easier to write people off the same way if you can comfortably put them in a box as "different" from yourself...whichever you prefer.)
i don't think it's as simple as "they're just bad people". lots of bad people aren't killers. it's in our nature to ask why. people don't just become bad people without something pushing them to that edge. and that seems to be the case more often with black killers than with white, just by looking at the recent sensationalized murders.
