Interesting article on some of the different philosophies inside Netflix :ehh:
At Netflix, Who Wins When It’s Hollywood vs. the Algorithm?

I'm glad to see the LA Side won out and GLOW got another season :whew:

Skim-read this, but it lines up with a lot of what I've been hearing and reading from commenters on TV and the business of film/TV.

It's gonna be interesting to see what kinda stuff gets picked up and developed now.

For now they seem to be focusing on region specific stuff (Spanish, Indian, British etc.) on the TV side and big name directors/actors on the film side.

They might be stepping back a little from giving TV people carte blanche to make what ends up being indie TV.

Yeah, they are definitely beefing up the international stuff as it provides the most room for subscriber growth. I'm pretty sure most people in the US have Netflix, are using someones password, or at least know someone who has it.

From next year all of YouTube’s original series are gonna be free, not behind the pay monthly paywall, and they’re moving away from making scripted shows.

YouTube to Make All Originals Available for Free, Ad-Supported Viewing as It Pulls Back on Scripted

This “challenge Netflix” thing has its first kinda-sorta casualty it looks like.

Yeah, people go to YouTube for short clips, videos. Not the first destination you think of for quality scripted shows and they aren't really serving a need in the marketplace. Aside from Cobra Kai, none of the originals really got much buzz. With Disney+, Apple, and Warner Bros service all coming next year, things would only get worse.
