Do ratings even really matter anymore? I mean we live in a time where ever critically acclaimed show has very pedestrian ratings, people just don't watch tv like they used to and that's why so many people have backed up DVRs.

This article explains it, it's a mix of cost and viewership. It's why most Netflix shows stop after 2 or 3 seasons.

Why Netflix Cancels Shows Quickly & Why Can’t They Find New Homes – Deadline

As an asset, having 30 episodes of a series (three seasons) is considered enough to satisfy viewers discovering the show. Tacking on more episodes does not add significant value, I hear. “A show doesn’t serve a purpose [anymore],” an observer said. “There is no reason for the network to continue to invest in it.”

Analysts believe that 5 seasons are the most you're gonna get out of a show in this era of TV

In the case of Netflix, it seems to be a matter of attracting new subscribers. Weighing the options of continuing to renew an existing show versus investing in a new series that potentially attract new people to subscribe to the service.

Yeah but unfortunately they cater to a "niche" audience

That article is crazy with how they put so much faith in Netflix's algorithm. That algorithm is kinda janky based on the shyt that it keeps recommending to me that makes absolutely no sense based on my viewing habits.

You would think that Netflix would be more forgiving with shows that garner critical acclaim and Emmy nominations just because it lends a certain prestige to the service.
Sounds to me like the nerds over there are all about their metrics and fukk everything else.

But they should also be of the mindset that maybe these shows are keeping subscribers, because at least for me Netflix's selection is starting to suck. They're getting rid of so many shows that it's making it easier for people to cancel their service.

If you were a fan of SyFy's Krypton, then it's easy to understand why you might be confused by its cancellation. But it seems like there were some good reasons for Syfy to pull the plug. Here's why Krypton was blown up earlier than expected.

If you judge it purely by critical reception, Krypton's cancellation is confusing. Critics almost unanimously praised the series' second season over its first. IGN's David Griffith called it "bigger and bolder," and Eric Joseph from We Got This Covered wrote that the series was, quote, "finally finding its potential." But the improvements didn't matter if no one was watching it.

It's not that nobody watched Krypton's second season, but the numbers dropped significantly. According to CinemaBlend, Krypton's series premiere was Syfy's highest-rated debut in four years. But the numbers dropped from there. The average viewership for a season 1 episode was close to 790,000. TV Series Finale reports that Krypton's second season finale attracted only 350,000 viewers, less than half of the audience of most season 1 episodes.

Watch the video for more about the real reason Krypton was cancelled!

The streaming giant has announced — via a Fyre Festival-spoofing video, above — a Thursday, Sept. 12 release date for The I-Land, a seven-episode series in which 10 people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there. As the group sets off on a trek to try to get back home, they soon discover this world is not as it seems.

Vince going to be getting involved with NXT now, so won't be any war at all as the NXT product is going to go to shyt before long just like the rest of the WWE TV products.

I plan to check out a few episodes at least, same with AEW.
