Man that Bill Watts era shyt was boring. There may have been good work in the ring but story-wise and aesthetic-wise it was trash. Nobody looks back at that era fondly. It just wasn’t compelling television. The business was changing and he tried to turn the clock backwards to dimly-lit house shows with no themed tag teams, no mats outside the ring and no off the top rope moves. And he pushed his bum ass son Erik Watts and ran off or alienated talent with his bully extortion tactics.

The business was not changing in 1992, it was tanking. WWF's production was even more sparse than WCW at the time and all through the New Gen era. shyt Raw's production in 1997 is closer to 80s NWA than WCW 1992 was.

Just watched The Rock vs Mankind I Quit match at the 1999 Royal Rumble again. When it's all said and done this will probably be my favourite match ever.

Also that heel version of The Rock was the best version of his character IMO.

WWF always had better video packages though

WCW's video packages were always garbage. Real thrown together amaetur hour shyt :scust:

True true, i meant in terms of camera work and graphics WCW was better but the WWF did have the promo package and Jim Johnston on it’s side

What? This is just factually not accurate. Watts cut the production value budget including the lighting and that’s a known fact. You can go on WWE network now and look at the matches from when he took over in early 92 compared to previous WCW shows, much less WWF where there was a clear disparity, and see the lighting and production value was better before he took over then got worse. Watts shows are so dark you can barely see the crowd. He eliminated pyrotechnics. His whole thing was trying to take it back to the 70’s focusing on house shows, removing ring mats, banning off the top rope moves and not paying wrestlers.

My point was the WWF also cut production value budget at the same time and it often looks even worse through out 1993-1994 especially. Even when they ramped it back up, the 1997 aesthetic is bare bones as fukk.

And also WCW 1992 is awesome and a lot of online nerds have raved about it and think of it as a high point in in ring quality in the US and have for about as long as message boards have been a thing.
