Kind of amazing that Flair's actual prime was probably 1981-86, yet he was still wrestling full time through 2008.

fukkin loooooooooooool at the Rumble 1996 airing Wrasslin Ted's War Room shytting on WCW for using "old guys from the 80s" like Hogan and Macho while having DORY FUNK JR. AND BOB BACKLUND SQUARING OFF IN THE RUMBLE. Also, Jake Roberts, Jerry Lawler, British Bulldog, and Barry Horowitz in the Rumble, all of whom started in the 70s, and the current WWF Champ (Bret) had debuted only one year after Hulk Hogan.

And now, in 2018, they built a whole show around guys from the 80s and 90s, and WM has been headlined by guys from the 80s and 90s for the past 10 years.

Gorilla Monsoon's commentary when Hogan cheated after he got eliminated at Rumble 89. Jesse called him out on it. Gorilla goes " So what" under his breath...lol.

Early 1982 MACW: The Andersons have finally been stripped of the NWA World Tag Team Titles after a few months of hemhawing by Sandy Scott. In actuality, the NWA allowed each territory to have their own version of the "world" tag titles for some reason, but as the LA territory went under, Mid Atlantic became the sole owners of the world tag titles. This meant a world wide tournament was held with representatives from most NWA territories involved, which meant footage from various territories and teams were shown on MACW, including Memphis/WWF/Florida and even AWA.

Florida had a match with the Brisco brothers called by one Bruce Tharpe, future owner of the NWA, whom I had no fukking clue was actually involved in the business before buying the NWA.

Small world after all :ehh:

Additionally, Roddy Piper decided he didn't need to wrestle on TV anymore after being so dominant in 1981 (I believe he won every singles title exclusive to the territory in 1981), so he became a color commentator and...he was really, really good at it. Significantly better than he ever was at it in the WWF. Despite being a heel and Roddy Piper, he's very earnest and puts over everyone super hard, even the jobbers and faces.

MACW January-June 1982

The vacated NWA World Tag Team Championships and the GIANT tournament to crown new champions takes up a lot of TV time these entire 6 months (and eventually isn't over until September). The idea was every NWA region/territory would have their own tournaments, with the winners of each area going on to a national, then world tournament. It's hard to really track down what did or didn't happen, as this was still a period when made up matches and tournaments were announced on TV that never really happened. But what this means for MACW TV is a lot of footage from various territories being shown.

The main team to come out of this is Stan Hansen/Ole Anderson, who would win the NWA National Tag Team Championships, and spend months torturing jobbers in the studio, especially Tony Anthony (future Dirty White Boy/TL Hopper) who got blasted in the mouth with lariats at least 4 times.

Speaking of Ole, he began a campaign of attacking Ric Flair in other territories. At the same time, Sgt. Slaughter had asked Ricky Steamboat or Ric Flair for a title shot depending on who won their title match. Both blew him off, so Sarge, along with his Privates Jim Nelson and Don Kernodle, would attack both Flair and Steamboat after a match, which ended up renewing the friendship between Flair/Steamboat. Jake Roberts, who was still just doing random tag matches for the most part, took great offense to Sarge and his men not wanting to fight 1 on 1, and Flair demanded to be booked in tags against Sarge/Ole/Hansen/Piper, so there were a few Flair/Steamboat/Roberts vs Ole/Sarge/Piper or Hansen matches at house shows.

Part of the tag tournament brought back Wahoo McDaniel and Don Muraco, but Wahoo would defeat Sarge for the US Title, which pissed Muraco off because he could no longer do the tag stuff, so Muraco turned on him and teamed up with Roddy Piper, then cost Wahoo the title back to Sarge. Also due to the tag tournament, the Briscos returned to the area. Piper started talking mad shyt to Jack Brisco for no real reason, and Jack then beat Piper for the Mid Atlantic championship. In response, Piper put Jerry Brisco out of action, then he and Muraco injured Jack's knee as well.

Ivan Koloff won and lost and won the TV title, but never actually defended it on TV. Jimmy Valiant started fukking with all the heels around his level on the card, then a loose alliance of Ole/Sarge/Piper/Koloff/Pogo was formed and Jimmy declared his WAR on them. And of course, he was still doing that WAR into the late 80s. Mr. Pogo, known as THE NINJA, was misting people and put both Jimmy and Jake out of action for a bit.

Some random odds and ends in the area: Angelo Mosca and Killer Khan came in for the tournament. Billy Robinson popped in for a few weeks. Austin Idol declared his intentions to go after the NWA Championship and spent a solid month and a half coming to ringside filming matches before vanishing back to Memphis without any angle or acknowledgment. After a series of DQs on TV and at live events, the NWA tested out a 30 day trial of no DQs in the Mid Atlantic area, but it really only lasted about 2 weeks on TV. Mike Rotundo made his sweaty, boring ass an unwelcome regular on TV. Barry Windham had his dad, Blackjack Mulligan, come in to defend him a few times, but Barry said he was his own man and needed to fight his own battles, so Blackjack just kind of vanished for a bit.
