I had a thought the other day that no wrestler in the WWE seems to be a reflection of the zeitgeist, the way Hogan, Warrior, Bret, Shawn, Austin, Rock and Cena were in their day. It used to feel like it was something that Vince insisted on. I guessed that they would try it with Ronda (I feel like they skipped Roman and we were spared Enzo's attempt at capturing that 6ix9ine energy after his fukk up), but I haven't watched recently enough to know....
It didn't hit me until I was watching the news on the treadmill this morning.
Vince has shifted that logic away from the wrestlers to the onscreen members of his family.
The McMahons are basically playing out the Trumps on TV.
You have the "all powerful" father - Vince/Trump
The rarely seen wife - Linda/ Melania
The ambitious daughter who is keen to follow in her father's footsteps - Stephanie/Ivanka
The hen-pecked, eager to please son in law - Hunter/Kushner
The goofy son - Shane/Don Jr. or Eric.
Add to that the nepotism, tone-deafness, greed and a close relationship with Fox and you have damn near a perfect photocopy. I'm surprised I didn't put this together during the 'Crown Jewel' debacle.
I doubt Vince did it on purpose, but it's funny that it worked out that way.
