Give him an 8. Though I hated his ring attire in the beginning and JBL was constantly trashing him on commentary, MVP became a breath of fresh air during a really shytty period in the WWE. 2006 was awful, but MVP became a reason I wanted to watch. Had a nice theme, eventually got good ring attire, could talk his ass off, and had a pretty dope moveset. I felt like I could really relate to him cause he was a black dude they was actually up to date on things and not some relic, as if the WWE only had two gimmicks for black people. I also liked they he had fly ass braids too, and not the bland ass straight back ones, cause I was rocking braids at the same time as well
I don't think I could point to any great or classic matches he's had, but he's had some very good ones. His matches with Benoit are what made him get taken seriously, and the ones against Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Hardy were probably my favorites. MVP was a scorching hot heel in the WWE that could have been pushed as a top guy, but they killed him with that losing streak gimmick. He recovered as a face as the crowd started to get behind him, but I don't think there was much of a chance of him rising above midcard as a face because of that. A losing streak to end his hot heel run on SD, followed by a US title run on Raw and underwhelming Raw tenure was trash to watch. He suffered some very bad booking as a face. Some dudes were just meant to be heel, so there's no way in hell you should try to build a guy through LOSING. It's stupid. Thought his TNA run was pretty good. He was cutting some fire promos, and Beat Down Club was a highlight then.
You know what, I'm changing him from 8 to 7, cause as an 8, I was ranking him on what he should have done and should have been booked like instead of how he was handled. he could talk, wrestle, had a high cool factor and had tons of charisma, but the WWE did not capitalize at all. By the time his tenure came to an end in the WWE, I was very glad he went to Japan, cause he deserved way more than being stripped of most of his gimmick as a face and wrestling Luke Gallows on WWE Superstars. That losing streak gimmick was so damn awful and should have never happened. Very high marks for MVP from me, but the WWE really botched his booking.
at the time i didnt appreciate him but compared to the talent in the E now his a main eventer, he would be the rock in 2017 with his mic work. solid gimmick the last true character gimmick in the wwe with a backstory and everything, i remember them talking about mvp being the top free agent and he came in on some primetime deon sanders shyt, workrate was decent. he got mark Henry to change his ring gear too, hardy challenge was funny, and had that racial gimmick with legacy, all in all he was a little too early or late for his time. 6.5
That's the dilemma right there. His gimmick was right on time, but HE was was late. He's 43 right now, was 33-34 at his peak, and was 28-29 when he first decided to wrestle. Had he already been in the WWE in 2002 with the MVP gimmick, he could have been money down the line. But in 02/03, MVP was pretty much debuting, and taking a MEEEEEEAN Pounce from Monty Brown in TNA
