pretend you are vegeta, the war on namek is over. freeza is dead, kakarot isn't around, and the only companions you have in the entire universe are a bunch of ingrates you can't stand (including kakarot's kid). you're mad at the world. kakarot was the super saiyan, not you. kakarot is the one that killed freeza, not you. you question whether or not your life still has any purpose.
and then you find out that freeza is still alive, and he's coming to earth. and you know that you are not strong enough to face him.
but then, out of nowhere, literally from the sky, arrives this young boy who saves the day. a saiyan... a SUPER saiyan.
vegeta, saved yet again and SURPASSED yet again by another saiyan. this time just a boy. the ultimate humiliation for the prince.
but that's not all. this boy that arrived from the sky... is also your son. the son whose real life is a living hell because you weren't there to protect him. and why weren't you there to protect him? because you died. that's right, androids took over the earth and they killed you in battle. you weren't strong enough. you're the reason he grew up fatherless and afraid.
and why did your son decide to show his face? so that he could give kakarot is heart medication. so that kakarot would be around to fight the androids and save the day. because obviously you weren't fit for the job. your son travels across time, across dimensions... to ask for KAKAROT'S help.
and who was the father figure to this boy in the future while you weren't around? why none other than kakarot's son. imagine that. even kakarot's son survived against the androids longer you than you did and lived long enough to be that man in your son's life.
in case i have to spell it out any further, vegeta was in hell.
thankfully vegeta attoned for his sins in the end and came to the aid of kakarot's son in his fight against cell. for once, vegeta can say he saved the day. all is well. all is forgiven. trunks returns to the peaceful life he should have had, vegeta lives out his days on earth as a reformed man... and everyone gets to live happily ever after.
and then what does this idiot do... this GOOD and DECENT man? he PURPOSEFULLY allows himself to be possessed by a sorcerer so that he could turn his heart evil again and fight kakarot.

I'll allow it
but without trunks intervening they all would have died... So vegeta should be grateful if he never had the information trunks possessed he would have never pushed himself to catch up.
Include the movies and it will be 20...
