Nixon sent some of his men to South Vietnam to lie to the South Vietnamese President and break up the Vietnamese Peace Talks which was being held in Paris. It was about ending the war but Nixon knew that it would hurt his chances of being elected (he really didn't want to lose a 2nd presidential election) so he had his men sabotage the peace talks and prolong the war (for his political gain). That was a treasonous act that was not known publicly for a long time even after Watergate.
Nope. Nixon was going to ride it out. Nixon resigned because GOP leaders abandoned him. If Republican leaders stuck by him, he would have remained President.
That's the big difference between then and now. Republican leaders in 1974 stopped defending Nixon but Republican leaders in 2019 are defending Trump and that's unlikely to change.
