Nah, Shep Smith saw the slow, yet quick regression of the Fox News Channel from a low-budget CNN clone, to a George Bush/Iraq War apologist mill, to a white supremacist outlet, to a straight up co-opted mouthpiece of Russian propaganda.

Dude was proud to work in the business, even for Fox as the lone voice of impartiality. I think the overwhelming shame of belonging to a network that has now practically owned up to being a corrupt political operation was too much. Chris Wallace is surely next and sometimes I wonder if even Geraldo Rivera has had enough. I wouldn't be shocked if he was forced out by the Hannitys and Tucker Carlsons of the world who have also owned up to being corrupt right wing gawkers with no journalistic standards whatsoever.

How does it bring Hunter Biden / Joe Biden into play? My understanding is that the GOP has a majority and could always call them up. I could be missing something.

The argument was already strong but one GOP defense point has been about a lack of good first hand witnesses. Bolton's book statements change that and also put additional pressure on people like Mulvaney to testify (even if it won't happen). Him saying it under oath is better than just the book statement on it's own.

Will it move the needle in terms of forcing GOP senators to change how they vote on witnesses or on removal? We'll see, but that's more of a reflection of the GOP than it is the importance of Bolton's testimony.

Exactly. This impeachment trial is a corrupt fix and the Republicans know it. They know they are gonna fall on this sword no matter what and frankly they know what they are doing is wrong. Trump supporters know this impeachment is justified and what Trump did is just wrong. They know Donald Trump has done something so unequivocally corrupt that they must now adapt his corruption to forever taint their life and legacy. They know these ridiculous defenses they're forced to regurgitate (perfect call, lol) might satisfy his ego and excite his Fox News/Twitter base but it will be fodder for ads that is going to put a whole lot of them out of their seats. They know Trump only cares about himself and will commit more and more acts, produce more and more bombshell headlines, all the way until November that they must defend and clean up for him at their own risk.

In fact I believe the party as a whole will not just acquit but adapt Donald Trump's corruption moving forward. I truly believe--especially if Donald Trump is not voted out of office--that this impeachment acquittal will be a horrible precedent and the beginning of the United States declining. Trump dodging both Mueller and this, and the fact Fox News is allowed to exist proves to these Republicans that there's nothing stopping them from being an outright corrupt, mob-like white power party. Not the constitution, not their oath of office, not whistleblowers, not devastating headlines, not Congress, and definitely not "the American people." Trump has proven that Americans are self-righteous idiots and you can win in American politics if you lie and cheat so relentlessly it becomes omnipresent in what people expect of you and your lies become conspiracies against your opponents that people can harp on forever. Hunter Biden should have been out this conversation the moment it was made clear the Burisma shyt is nothing but more Putin-conceived election engineering.

There should be protests on Capitol Hill right now but at least half this country has shown that they will gladly wipe their ass with the same constitution they claim to love and stand behind corruption if it also means standing by white supremacy. The other half apparently lacks the critical thinking skills to know they can vote, win elections, keep the other side out of power and advocate for specific ideological agendas from those they elected at the same time. Im talking to TLR weirdos.

And Putin's got his propaganda working both sides and influencing elections while the nation falls into corruption and instability.

On September 24, 2019, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives was moving forward with an impeachment inquiry following reports of a whistleblower complaint concerning communication between President Trump and a foreign leader.

Impeachment hearings were conducted in both the House Intelligence Committee and House Judiciary Committee, and on December 18, 2019, the House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President Trump. Article I – Abuse of Power – was approved by a vote of 230 to 197 and Article II – Obstruction of Congress – was approved by a vote of 229 to 198.

The articles have now been brought to the Senate, where a trial is being held, as outlined by the Constitution.

It is my hope that Senators will make judgements based on the facts and work together in a thoughtful and bipartisan way. Also the point is that Bolton testify under oath--Trump and allies have already accused him of making things up to boost book sales. Testifying makes that argument harder.
