On September 24, 2019, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives was moving forward with an impeachment inquiry following reports of a whistleblower complaint concerning communication between President Trump and a foreign leader.
Impeachment hearings were conducted in both the House Intelligence Committee and House Judiciary Committee, and on December 18, 2019, the House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President Trump. Article I – Abuse of Power – was approved by a vote of 230 to 197 and Article II – Obstruction of Congress – was approved by a vote of 229 to 198.
The articles have now been brought to the Senate, where a trial is being held, as outlined by the Constitution.
It is my hope that Senators will make judgements based on the facts and work together in a thoughtful and bipartisan way. Throughout this process, it is my hope to update Virginians on a regular basis. My updates can be found at:
