The authors of the Constitution had more faith in the voters. Jokes on them all these centuries later.
Look at this trash.
No they didn't.
People need to stop idolizing those slaveholders. By today's standards, they'd be people like Jamie Dimon, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, James Mattis, etc. Extending the franchise to them meant letting men without land vote--something which they didn't want to do let alone women or what they thought of as livestock( black people) or native Americans.
America as you know it is the result of movements not people. We need to a new constitution, and our money needs to stop promoting individuals but
movements that created America. Instead of Benjamin Franklin, it should be a group of black laborers on the 100 which symbolizes the fact that we built the economy of this country. On the 50, it should be a group of suffragettes or a ballot box being given to a group of people to symbolize the vote being expanded. On the 20, it should be a group of soldiers in the pacific theater defending America. on the 10 it should be a group of scientists with coats on symbolizing America's contribution to humanity's collective knowledge. The 5 should show cufflinked hands with a an elephant and donkey cufflinks to symbolize compromise and the 1 should be a blend of forest and plains which symbolize America's natural beauty and the foundation of this country's resources.
Republicans are actively trying to disenfranchise everyone and go back to how the authors of the constitution wanted, where it was landowning white men who could vote and nobody else.
