This. It’s getting a little tired how often in the past 36 or so hours people seem to see what’s coming and blame the Democrats for it. I know that.

I was mentioning that we are all lucky Trump is not public with his autocratic intentions. He won while the opposition attempted to paint the election as democracy vs autocracy. Trump can claim the people gave him the mandate for autocracy.

If we have 4 years of hearing a sitting president proclaiming to the media that they are the law (unitary executive theory) with no pushback and gets away with it, the country will eventually collapse as future presidential candidates will also have greater and greater autocratic ambitions.

As far as those better solutions? The Democrats will not learn anything because their corporate donors may find Trump odious but they will like his tax cuts. So the donor class won't allow the Democrats to actually have economic populism on the cards for 2028.

Anything less than economic populism is a sure fire way for a Vance presidency in 2028.

But who knows, maybe there will be an economic crisis, or other public health crisis that'll kill the Republicans chances in 2028.
