What's all the flack for Bob for?

He's an 89 year old with a loose filter, but frankly his business model has kept Top Rank not only in business, but at the top for decades now.

Everyone is saying Triller overpaid for this fight, why is it wrong when Bob says it?

Why is it wrong that he calls out Eddie Hearn for making a bid knowing damn well they're in the same business, and have to actively work with one another? It's short sighted to do something like that knowing you're in the midst of having to negotiate a Fury Joshua fight.
It's because Bob has no right to be pissed if he's not willing to pay his fighter what he deserves. Bob is mad because he was hoping nobody else would bid on the fight and he would be able to air it for cheap. But Eddie hearn and triller let it known they value his own fighter more than he does.

Bob has that pimp mentality. He likes to keep his fighters in check so they don't realize their true worth. Just look how he used to do Floyd. Bob told teo the fight wasn't worth shyt and teo proved him wrong and made him look like a fool. That's why Bob is lashing out....his ego hurting right now. The marketplace just hit him with that hard reality. And now teo is gonna demand even more when they gotta negotiate his next fight and there ain't shyt Bob can do about it. The market dictated that teo's fight was worth 6 mil so that's what it's worth.

This is a terrible look for top rank all the way around. They shoulda been doing everything in their power to make teo into a superstar after he whooped loma's ass. Now he's gonna be fighting on somebody's else's platform cause Bob wanted to be a greedy old fukk. Bob is one of the GOAT promoters but his time is almost up. If he loses bud and teo it's gonna be a huge blow. And if bud leaves Shakur will definitely be next. The days when the fighters had no power are over. Bob is gonna have to accept that shyt or get out the game. Wouldn't be surprised if Crawford goes the purse bid route next. These other networks would drop real good money for that porter fight.

in a way i can see why arum has no smoke for triller but he should also be careful since triller wants to get into boxing and are looking at fights that hit purse bids...they may not care about developing fighters but im sure you cant have marquee fighters wanting to fight away from the promoter's home platform to theirs regularly without good cause lol

I'm NOT BUYING IT BRO I CAN'T.

Arum has repeatedly said that if Teo isn't happy with Top Ranks offer for this fight, he can go to purse bid. So it goes to purse bid.

Triller, by most accounts, OVERPAYS massively for the fight. Arum comes out and compliments Triller and Kavanaugh. Triller is now responsible for broadcasting a mandatory defense that no one was actually excited for, plus Arum still gets a big check from Teo!

Arum gets pissed at Teo, Teo's team, and Eddie Hearn, which is perfectly reasonable.

Arum has showed a willingness to bargain and work with Teo in the past. Bob has said that if a fight is worth more, he'll offer more, which he did for Teo in the Lomachenko fight. Also negotiated, was a new minimum for Teo's fights, which Teo and his team agreed to and were happy with.

In both the Kambosos and Lomachenko negotiations, we've seen Teo and his manager go to the media and speak lowly of Bob, in spite of Teo benefitting greatly from their relationship with Top Rank. Without Top Rank, would Teo have gotten a promotional push as the poster boy for the largest sports network? Without Top Rank, would he have gotten the Lomachenko fight, and would he have gotten it before Devin Haney? You say Top Rank should've been doing everything to make Teo a superstar, IS HE NOT? Dude is easily one of the more recognizable fighters in boxing right now.

Teofimo Is basically willing to hurt his relationship with Top Rank over a Kambosos fight, despite having years left on his Top Rank deal.

On Eddie Hearn: Bob feels slighted and it makes sense. Top Rank, regardless of where Teo fights Kambosos, has a deal with Teo. Anyone who placed a bid, knows that they're only getting the rights for one fight, before he has to fight on ESPN again. Hearn, unlike Triller, actually represents a direct competitor to ESPN and Top Rank, and has continued to drive a wedge between Bob and his fighter, WHY WOULDN'T BOB BE PISSED?

Again, Hearn has to work with Bob, but he's over here getting in Teo's ear at the Canelo fight, placing bids on Teo's fights, why wouldn't Bob grow resentful?

Anyways, Bob is 89. "His time is almost up." Do you mean as a promoter, or on this earth? Is bowing out at 89 actually a bad thing? If anything, it shows that his practices actually make sense.

Arum is 100% right about Thriller and I think we kind of jumped the shark with the what fighters "deserve" narrative
Someone paying a certain purse != sustainable economic model to consistently produce good fights
platforms are skewing the market overpaying for bouts as a glorified marketing technique (for the platform not the fighters)

that being said i don't understand why he's mad at hearn. once the fight went to purse bid it was open season for who ever to buy it imo

the bolded - like example danny jacobs was on PBC cards 2015-2016 but hasnt been since cuz the bigger opportunities (not money) were outside which he got...the high profile fights with GGG and Canelo plus another belt and earned a shytload of money in the process...that's good cause

Bob is a legendary promoter and his resume speaks for itself. His model as of the past few years, basically having one Top Dog in a division with some threats bodes well for young guys to become stars and/or gain notoriety. But like @ChocolateGiddyUp said , after you make a name for yourself and become bigger than the brand, your best bet is to leave and either do the Indy shyt or sign with with another promotion.

Most these nikkas, especially this day and age, have no chance of being the next Oscar or Floyd but there’s a ceiling when you’re under Bob. The way Bob has talked shyt about Bud and Teo, his own fighters is disgusting and a horrible look. I have a lot of confidence that Boxing will be in a much better place when Bob passes away :hubie:

This dude is straight up threatening his fighters by waving their contracts in their face saying they have years left and to get someone to buy you out.
Meanwhile even though he is their promoter he is just trashing them in the media as opposed to trying to find a solution or offer a way to increase their value.
Just because top rank is tied up with espn does not mean the fighter should have to suffer because top rank can't allocate the annual espn budget properly . Seems like arum is content with the espn deal and wants to just do the minimum for his fighters and their earnings.

This is damn near like winning a lottery ticket. Platforms that come in and overpay never last.

6 million should be able to get you a high quality fight at lightweight. That’s the crazy part about it. Instead, they overpaid for a tuneup. You’re simply not gonna last in this game doing that type of shyt.

I don’t think Teo is going to look at this like a one off. He’s going to expect this type of purse going forward, and quite frankly, no seasoned promoter would pay it. He probably should start the process of moving up to WW to go after the purses he is seeking.

As far Bob, the issue with him is saying this shyt publicly, but when you’re 89, you truly don’t care.

Great assessment. Logical.

The kid George is no joke though, it isn't a tune up, Lopez in for a war. Trust me.
